Carbon fiber work (Picture heavy) with diffuser updates

So I have been dabbling with composites the last couple months and I decided to start skinning some of the parts on my car. I have currently done the mirrors, the gauge pod covers, the door switch panel and the B pillars (which i still have to buff to remove the slight orange peel left by the clear coat). I am very happy how these parts came out, they are nearly flawless. I am currently working on the head unit.

Over the last month I have also been working on my own side blades and a functional rear diffuser. Currently I have the side blades made out of foam that i will use to made a mold for the finished carbon ones.

The rear diffuser is a very rough fiberglass model as of now. I am currently working out the mounting situation before I go any further. Im looking for a 5-7 degree rake angle and I will include fins later.

Very nice

:iagree:

Any plans on making these for a larger market than just for yourself?

astro932 04-24-2016 06:28 PM

cant wait to build my splitter! hopefully you have a better mounting idea than I do

eastwest2300 04-24-2016 08:26 PM

Brother, I'd be strongly interested in a carbon fiber crown that goes over the tachometer if you built that for a good price, you'd have a buyer here.

Nice work. Really nice work. We really need a cheaper alternative to whats out there..

Lol, the Evo-R one is cheap already, lol

eastwest2300 04-24-2016 08:46 PM

Isn't it like $100?

eastwest2300 04-24-2016 08:47 PM

then they sell it on eBay for $150, seriously..wtf.

Aviator44 04-24-2016 10:11 PM

Nice work! Are you vacuum bagging the parts?

I originally planned on just doing this for myself as a cheaper alternative than buying from elsewhere, as it was significantly cheaper. But I actually enjoy doing this and wouldn't mind making parts for anyone interested. The only problem is come may 9th I start my new full time job and will only have evenings to work on the parts. Though I would definitely sell them cheaper than the others.

Thanks man! I will look into that first thing once I get my car back from service which should probably be Saturday. I just have to figure out how to get a mold of that part because I am not sure if you can just remove that portion. I would sell for cheaper than evo r. Ive realized the materials are not necessarily the expensive part its more the time required.

Yeah. When I skin the parts I use vacuum bagging to get the carbon as tight to the part as possible the usually finish up by a wet lay up. For cover pieces (and eventually the side blades and diffuser) I make a mold then do vacuum infusion.

osanshouo 04-25-2016 01:16 AM

Good job, looks sharp.

OldFart 04-25-2016 06:12 AM

Very nice work!!!!! Have thought about doing similar but time was always an issue.

Masterbeatty 04-25-2016 09:02 AM

Nice! its a big pain in the d!ck isn't it. I did this a few years ago.

FPenvy 04-25-2016 09:11 AM

I went to both this year so far and pretty much I don't miss them unless I'm out of town. typically just zdayz weekend I miss and/or labor day weekend I'm out of town.

I think I've seen the red E93 before. don't think I've seen your Z there. not many show up.

Dude, I will gladly put money in your hands... whenever you're ready brother. No pressure.

Smashley 04-26-2016 06:56 AM

I'd purchase some side blades from you.

JARblue 04-26-2016 08:09 AM

Sub'd for details on that diffuser :yum:

AdamRacer 04-26-2016 03:47 PM

:iagree: I am interested in a diffuser.

spiston21 05-09-2016 10:19 PM

Diffuser updates

Here is what the diffuser will look like. This is just the right side, I didn't really feel like mounting the other side because it would be exactly the same. This is still just the rough model so not everything is perfectly symmetrical. Sorry for the bad iPhone pictures

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...psdzgxvz2x.jpg

Ignore the bolts hanging they will be trimmed later. The gap between the fins and the hanging height will be adjusted so it is even (I just slapped them on there for the picture). Also the final carbon one will be one piece eliminating the seams.

http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3pmsumxj.jpg

The middle rake is currently less than the outside because i messed up on the center mount but I will make remake it so the rake about 8 degrees all around. I think its a nice alternative to the typical 370z diffuser

Sounds good.

I'm actually getting my new tires put on Saturday morning.

What's your tire issues I may have some spares depending on sizes.
