Panels Above Windows Lifting Off of Top of Car

Hey all,

I recently discovered an issue with the body panels directly above my windows in my Z. The panels are actually lifting up (no longer creating a seal) from the top of the car. These are the panels that extend down the sides of the windshield to the hood, though they are seated properly along the windshield.

I first noticed this happening to my driver side panel, and I immediately drove it to the dealer who told me the warranty on the panels had expired (mine is a 2012). But upon driving it to the dealer, the panel had actually sat back down properly.

I took the car cover off today to find that the passenger side was now not seated properly (the cover is a Noah). Any thoughts as to why this would be happening and how I could get it fixed (pressing on the panel didnt get it to seat)? Could it be my car cover is somehow causing these panels to warp in transition from wet to dry?

My real concern is water getting in between those panels and doing damage. My car may be a 2012 but its got less than 18k miles, and i treat it incredibly well, this really shouldnt be happening imo....

Guess I should also note that the gap im talking about is between .5cm to .75cm

Any input will be appreciated

-Dan

those are called a-pillar finishers. they can be purchased separately pre-painted.

if u had ur windsheild replaced, chances are the tech broke the tabs.

I'll get a picture when it happens next. The only thing i can think is that it is related to my car cover and heat which is a shame because it works beautifally and was a gift. Anyone had warping issues due to a cover? Again mine is nice, its a noah, so im still unsure this is the root cause.

ok this better?? ;]

And as for bearing on this picture, the windshield is on the left and the roof of the car is the 'center' of the photo. So the A-pillar shown is the passenger side, though this is happening on my driver side also. Thinking its the sun/heat but i donno. So anyone seen this issue? Should i worry about water damage or is this purely cosmetic?

kenchan 04-29-2016 04:30 PM

dat is odd. maybe the tabs under there broke off for some reason. can u push down the a-pillar finisher and touch the roof (close the gap)?

kenchan 04-29-2016 04:32 PM

download the service manual and look at the EXT document. it shows u how the finisher attaches to the body around p32
