CF Wrapped Accents on 15 Nismo Bumper?

Looking for some feedback on this.

The plastic on my front bumper was fading so i decided to wrap it in gloss CF. Try to ignore my crappy cut lines but what do you guys think?

My roof is wrapped as well so it ties in fairly well.

Leave it or go gloss black?

Thanks

Not a fan of fake CF. it's a 45K car, use real CF accents IMO

Send it to carbon fiber element. Might be expensive to ship, I thought u were talking about the red accent pieces

BrockDM1 01-27-2016 10:54 AM

Thank you for the honest opinions guys.

I used ViVViD Vinyl TechArt Gloss CF. It was hard to get a good picture of it because of the lighting in my garage so it does look a bit blurry and distorted.

If i can get better pics later on I'll try but its stored away for winter at the moment.

Here is a pic of the vinyl up close

Thanks for the idea but I'm not looking to spend a few thousand on a new bumper ATM.

Just wanted something to cover up the plastic fading

DeliriousClam 01-27-2016 10:57 AM

I'm going to be trying to hydro dip the red accents tonight in carbon fiber if yall are interested to see how it comes out

+1

Would love to see how it goes

kenchan 01-27-2016 02:37 PM

the jagged edges is wat kinda ruins it for me.

also, for your faded exterior blacks, you might want to try this product called blackwow by octaneguy.

BlackWow Pro 16oz Plastic Trim Restorer

kenchan 01-27-2016 02:38 PM

kinda like that sweater question...

'so, did you make that urself?'

That's understandable. I certainly didnt take as much time as i could have, it was cold and i just wanted to get it done lol. If i have the time i might give it a go again.

I appreciate the inputs from though and will look into the Blackwow

YettaGoGetta 01-31-2016 09:07 AM

I like the idea, I saved some cash and did a wrap on the b pillar and window trim on my '13 nismo. I like the look on my color with the dipped handles. I think if you give it another shot and get the edges perfect it'll look great.

Do you like the cf wrap? If so that's all you need.

kenchan 01-31-2016 11:57 AM

Hey dat darkened door handles look good on the silver.

I'm usually not a big fan of the dry carbon vinyl but your's looks awesome. It blends perfectly with the handles.

Nicely done.

As for me, once it warms up some I'm going to redo it and clean it up

 GL with dat. i use an extremely sharp pair of scissors to cut radius. :)

YettaGoGetta 01-31-2016 04:14 PM

Appreciate the compliments. At the end of the day, it's what makes you happy that counts. That's what will make your Z stand apart from others is making it what YOU like.

JC-Nismo 01-31-2016 04:26 PM

Man leave your car the way it is, this is the wrong forum to be asking for opinions!!! If you like, I love it!!! Looks clean and unless your up close trying to find a flaw, who the hell would notice and please don't go out a waste your money on REAL CARBON FIBER, the shiits overrated and you obviously like how it looks or you would've posted the pics in the first place. Nice mod and good work.

kenchan 01-31-2016 07:54 PM

Yah some cars looks like it was sat on by a taffyapple and wheels poked out the arches... And they think dat looks good .. Lol :ugh:

JC-Nismo 01-31-2016 08:43 PM

TaffyApple, LMFAO!!!
There car, there money Ken. Folks on here swear by certain things and if you seem to be out of sync with what they like, then it's something wrong with you. It seems Work Wheels and FI Exhaust are godly on here and to me there both over priced and overrated along with the Gen III CAI. The OP spent probably less than $50 bucks on the roll to wrap his pieces, but some say spend triple that for REAL CF for something that will essentially look the same to most, but because I spent $300 oppose to $50, that makes it valid. To each his own I guess......................

Greatly worded haha! I completely agree with the real carbon fiber argument. It's not worth sending parts to get them remade when they make vinyl that achieves the same look. Replacing them isn't going to make a difference whether its real or not, weight wise. *depending on the parts*

You are right though, I do like it lol. I'm gonna go back with an Xacto knife and see if i can clean it up a bit just because I'm really anal when it comes to stuff like this lol.

I appreciate the kind words though!

Nick M 02-01-2016 12:51 PM

No offense, but it looks really cheap and terrible IMO.

How on earth do you have fading trim on a 2015?

My 2009 trim still looks like new.

kenchan 02-01-2016 02:23 PM

maybe he accidentally put polish or wax on the black trim?

As for comparing wrap CF to real CF. Its like comparing a Murdered Honda Civic to a 370z. No comparison. lol. There is a reason why the price is so different.

Real Carbon Fiber is more of a performance piece as well, as it is lighter than FRP. There is also the diffrerence between Wet Carbon Fiber and Dry Carbon Fiber. Although both are lighter than FRP, Wet Carbon Fiber is heavier than Dry Carbon Fiber.

So if you are looking at something to make the car more flashy and look cool, Wrap would be a good idea. Just make sure you take your time and get it done correctly because people CAN tell if they know what they are talking about, unlike what JC has stated. A real Car Enthusiast they can tell the difference, but won't judge you for using a CF wrap, glossy or matte (although most matte CF wrap looks better in the end than Glossy CF wrap). Heck I have seen a couple Z's have CF wrap that looks amazing!

If you are looking at reducing weight or would like real authentic pieces or anything like that on the overall car, you would want to look into REAL CF.

^^ Just more of a in depth look at CF and not a bunch of biased opinions for you OP.

Although, Like JC said FI and the GEN 3's are most circulated/talked on these forums because they are well known, Plus the products are usually good quality. Then again JC, You get what you pay for. You buy a brand new set of $200 intakes and a brand new $400 exhaust, chances are the sound of your car will sound cheap with almost no overall gains

I for one have the Nismo R-tune Long Tube CAI ($700 brand new) and run the FI CF 18" resonator Ehxuast ($1600 brand new) and haven't been bashed or told there was anything wrong with me for not having Gen 3's for one. Two, between those two mods I have added close to 35whp or so.
I know plenty of people that have neither of those products and are still very well respected members here.

OP, If you should take anything from what members say about products here is to make sure to stay away from parts that aren't good quality, of which there are a lot out there on the market. There are plenty of good products out there in the market, just have to make sure you steer clear of the bad quality products.

For example, if members didn't start talking about and informing people of Aerojacket or GTM after they went bad, people would keep purchasing from them. Why, as a community, should we allow someone asking a questions about which products are good quality etc purchase products that are from bad companies or bad quality. We should inform them to not do so, so they do not waste their time or their money.

You make a great argument don't get me wrong. I understand quality and what stands behind it. I just thought I would throw out my experience to anyone that might have similar thoughts with wrapping.

Without a doubt real CF will make a difference over vinyl but for this application I don't believe real CF is even an option. Sending a brand new bumper off to be completely remade so a few plastic pieces look different just seems silly. But hey if you have the money for that my applauds to you! Im sure it would look incredible.

All in all I appreciate everyone's feedback. Nothing will appeal to everyone and I understand that. Just throwing the idea out there incase others like it as well.

Note I will be cleaning it up so it doesn't look half assed

Thanks guys

I'm not sure what happened to it. Nothing was applied to it and it was like that when i bought it. Note: I didn't notice it at the time of purchase but from looking at pictures it was there.

It's hard to tell in the pic but you can see white fade circles all along the front

For that specific piece for you you wouldn't look at sending your entire bumper anywhere haha (someone said that earlier idk.). There are cover pieces that you can buy to put on there like a wrap. If you were going to go full CF, you would buy the entire bumper CF and then paint it how you want it haha.

The wraps do look good on those little pieces too and add less weight than a cover

Ahh okay, I didn't know they made covers for this bumper already. Might be something I'll look into. Do you happen to know who makes it?

Also you mentioned something about seeing other people's Z's with great looking CF vinyl. Do you know the brand of that as well?

If I have to end up re-wrapping, I'll need to buy more vinyl and I'm always open to trying new brands. The VViVid was nice but it was rather thick and hard to shape.

EVO-R makes covers for plenty, wouldn't order directly from them, its a crapshoot getting your order.
Do not know how much they have in inventory for accent covers for the 15 nismo bumper. Just due to the emblem
Here is a good place to find most of the common Carbon Fiber Covers from:

Welcome To Motorsport & The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts!

Pretty fast shipping, good customer service, and good prices on everything.

If you wrap, a good strategy for the part your are talking about would be wrap the piece without the emblem and then reinsert the emblem, it would look a lot cleaner in that sense.

As for the wrap itself, I wouldn't know what is good just cause I never got a good enough answer myself when I was looking early on in modding. I just know to stay AWAY from CARid and Ebay
I do know that the matte CF vinyl comes out looking better more often than the glossy.
YhettaGoGetta may be able to give you a better input on the good brands and better ways to apply the vinyl.

Plus if you just bought this car and the black is already fading I would try to have Nissan give you a whole new front bumper lol.

cooltoy 02-01-2016 06:25 PM

I would have gone to the dealer. That's what the warranty is for.

Thank you.

I will bring it up next time I am up there. The dealer is about an hour and a half from me but I appreciate the help.
