Hood Pins??

I ordered a VIS CF hood, They said they recommend hood pins? Is this a must and if so what pins should I get?

Some info and pics would be a big help thanks..

As long as the hood engages the factory latches properly, hood pins should not be needed. They may help lessen flexing at higher speeds. I'd try it without the pins and see what happens. YMMV

This might help. I think those Aero Catch hood pins are considered as the top ones.

Yes I was considering the Aerocatch pins.. But hate the thought of cutting a brand new hood.... I get sick to my stomach thinking about it...

Venom13132 01-22-2016 12:02 PM

ive seen properly latched and properly fitted CF hoods fly 50ft in the air after ripping off the hinges. Its worth the cost of the hood pins. The aeroCatch are the way to go. That is what I had on my FD RX-7 with custom hood.

yeah cutting the hood was a bit of stomach turner. I actually had a shop do it for me because I didnt want to mess it up.

but they are a quality product and it will keep your hood on your car at high speeds. I think they look nice too (as far as hood pins go)

Thanks guys, I'll wait and see how the fitment is, then I'll go from there.

I'm trying to get the car ready for an upcoming show..

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. :)

You don't need to install them. At all

Why??

Trips 01-22-2016 08:24 PM

The Z is designed with 3 latches, the hood pins are just overkill.

I would understand maybe a 1, 2 latch design but 3

But again if its for show? Thats another story

Because your new hood weighs more than the OEM one

nismo13807 01-23-2016 01:52 AM

if your car see alot of high speed like a track car.. i would get hood pins... better safe then sorry.. if its a normal street car or show car then probably not much to worry about..

Hotrodz 01-23-2016 07:43 PM

I agree with the others, my Z see speeds of 120 and as high as 160 with no issues!

70ina30 01-24-2016 09:25 PM

I had VIS hood for my rsx and my 350z.... no pins and no issues ever.
I will be ordering one for my 370z soon as well and will not be installing pins

NextLevel 05-30-2018 01:59 PM

Try having a hood.... with no latch ;) #racecarmode, hoodpins REQUIRED

A few endurance race hoods we received from japan don't even have the mounts or location under the bonnet for the oem latch to attach to

Morfiy 05-30-2018 09:41 PM

Here’s how I installed mine..
I have Varis cooling bonnet Ver.1 and Aerocatch “Top Secret” hood latches.

The only perfect place I found for pins (didn’t want to drill new holes) was factory bolts holes, located in line with oem hood lock but at the sides, close to the headlight.
Sorry, No detailed pics (
