Especially since you have to grab the handle anyway.

You could extend that question to a variety of modification that people make to their automobiles. "Is it really worth it?" Good lord...people here often obsess about changing their starting button to a red GTR button. For example.

Short answer, apparently, is "yes". For some people (maybe not you), a remote button for the hatch is a convenience that may be worth the effort of splicing in a remote momentary-contact switch. This thread is hoping to find a simple way to do it.

OP - does it function while driving or in gear?

Oh I know exactly where the wires are in the passenger kick panel. The pin for the hatch release is negative but the motor needs to be 5-wired

I've already been into the BCM while installing the T-connector for illuminated kick panels. That was a piece of cake, and the M121 bus is even easier to get to than the M119 where the illuminated kick panels splice in.

Splicing into the gray wire should be easy enough, but it would be nice to have confirmation that a momentary switch between gray wire and ground is all that's needed.

Not the best comparison.
GTR button is an appearance mod that one sees everyday.

I'll bet you could come up with a better example.

Yes. Different people see these things differently. Some think that a remote hatch release is dumb, some think that changing from a white to a red button is dumb. Some even think (gasp!) that adding forced air induction is dumb.
People shouldn't judge the value of what other people think is important.

I don't think that this mod is dumb, just redundant. One still has to go and and use the handle to pull open the hatch, so does it matter whether one presses a button inside or outside.

Now if you could get the hatch to rise automatically, like an SUV - now you are talking.

I'm just gonna try to do this for ***** and giggles because I'm bored

cooltoy 12-25-2015 03:03 PM

BTW - no GTR button for me.

My hatch pops well clear when released making it obvious to those who need access to it while I remain in the car. You're assuming that I'm always the one that's going to need access to the trunk. As I mentioned, I need to let security into it to inspect for whatever it is they inspect for without me getting out of the car. They don't see many Z's, have a hard time figuring out where the hatch release is.

DeliriousClam 12-26-2015 05:35 PM

so looked into being able to make the hatch open and close remotely and that'd be expensive as ****. Playing with the wiring does seem to indicate that a momentary switch between the grey trunk pop wire and ground will release the hatch. I need to get a button then I'll confirm.
