weird problem

hey guys. i have a 2015 nismo and not even 10k miles on it. the other day i was driving and it was starting to get dark out. so i turned on my park lights on and all of a sudden i had no power when i stepped on the gas! it was like my gas pedal was dead. i turned off the lights and the problem went away. turned them back on and no power. i pulled off to the side and turned my car off hoping the problem would reset but it didn't. lucky it wasnt to dark out so i could get home without lights. the next day it was fine and this been over a week without any problems. has anyone ever had or heard of this problem? just to add to this on my previous 2013 Z i did have the random throttle body problem that some people had on their z's. i had to get them changed out. it happend once about a month ago on my current z. no engine light came on and it only did it for one day. i couldn't recreate the problem so the dealer couldn't do anything. other than that i love my Z lol

That is weird. Subbed to see if anybody comes up with an explanation.

Mice?

kenchan 11-10-2015 02:57 PM

ive not heard or read about this problem.

did it happen with the headlamps on, or just the parking lights?

TerribleONE 11-10-2015 02:58 PM

Flux capacitor forsure.

Subbed out of curiosity.

Did you have any work done to your lighting or electricians recently? headlights, stereo, etc

If not, take it to dealer since its still under warranty and let us know what they say.

JARblue 11-10-2015 04:05 PM

How long has it been since the throttle body was fixed?

At the very least, I would make sure to document every occurrence and notify the dealer immediately. Even if you cannot recreate it with them, make them enter details of the event in your customer record. Next time it happens, drive straight to the dealer if you can.

kenchan 11-10-2015 04:09 PM

yes, logging the occurrence is good practice indeed. :iagree:

russw007 11-12-2015 05:07 AM

it was with both the parking lights and headlights.

MicntaeG35 11-12-2015 05:19 AM

it could be either crossed wires or possibly a shortage.

russw007 11-12-2015 05:50 AM

the throttle body was fixed on the previous 2013Z.

actually i did put in a rear fog light just using wire taps. i made sure the wiretaps were tight and i electrical tape the **** out of them. do you think that could be what caused it?

I'd check the fog light wiring and any other mods that have been made.

DIGItonium 11-12-2015 10:20 AM

Fog lights... someone had the same issue with aftermarket LED tail lights for the 350Z. Miswiring.

you used a new stalk and all? maybe that is it.

on my 09, i couldn't find the pre-wiring in the rear bumper so i just ran a new wire and use a rocker in one of the 3 blanks (center console). no issue ever encountered on my setup.

Carbon_z 11-12-2015 11:48 AM

Maybe you had wires crossed, since it appears to be a short when they are functioning.

2011 Nismo#91 11-12-2015 01:29 PM

Grounding issue on the light circuit is all I can think of.

kenchan 11-12-2015 04:48 PM

it could be.. does it only happen when it's raining, etc?

i tapped into the left brake light wires. each wire was individually taped so there is no way the wires are touching. it happened on a dry day. i installed it in july and it only happened once. if it does happen again i will check the wiring. i will probably solder the wires next time.

russw007 12-02-2015 06:51 AM

fixed the problem and it was of my own doing. never use wire taps for permanent wiring. so two out of the four wires were almost completely severed. i knew it was my bad one night when i was getting gas and i noticed my left break light which was the one i tapped into was flickering. i redid the wiring job this time soldering them together and the problem went away. you do live and learn! thanks for all your feedback and help guys!:hello:
