I just used a small amount of loctite on the threads and it stays in place.

CLEAR COAT IT. I have owned more knobs than all of you combined. Spend $10-20 and get it cleared with a high quality clear.

Another option to get it straight that I posted in old thread is. I went to lowes and bought some 3/8" I'd aluminum tube and cut a taller than own spacer. Once cut and it was close then I just lightly sanded until it lined up perfectly when tight. I haven't had an issue in 3 years. I figured this was better option at the time so that over time it wouldn't loosen as it could if you loctite or thread seal it.

Not a painter, sorry. But BASF, DuPont should work
