Closing the door from the window bad?
 

I read on another forum that closing the door from open framless windows is bad? I quote " It puts a large amount of stress on the window and can crack it eventually.". Is this true or just some nonsense? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't do it.

The glass in the doors are tempered. Meaning it won't crack,it'll shatter. Tempered glass is much more harder to break,because it is basically heat strengthened. I don't close my door by the glass just because I don't like finger prints!:shakes head:
The door skin (liner) might seperate as well.:tiphat:

In addition to putting additional stress on the glass, you are also stressing the regulator mechanism. Plus the fingerprints, as per Merv. If you must use the glass to close the door push on the part closet to the door seal (less leverage there).

That is why there is a side panel door handle to use for this purpose.

i use the black plastic strip just below the glass.

eh...why don't people just close the door by pushing the actual door and not the glass??

opening all handle, closing all handle. or plastic weather strip.

one time my gf closed by the glass. i was more upset of the fingerprints.

she then went on to put a palm on the window. i dropped her home early so i could re-detail my car.

when I had windows, I closed them by the glass, but only on the lower part of the side edge, with the palm of my hand, so I wouldn't get fingerprints on the door or glass.

Closing windows by the glass must be a chick thing. They all seem to do it and leave fingerprints on the glass besides the stress on the frameless window. I ask them nicely not to do it and spank them if they do it again.

Oh, closing is not my problem. I have a lunch mate that grabs onto the glass to yank his heavy *** OUT! I'm like :eek:

And it's even worse with 'after lunch' greasy fingers!!

Then how do you keep them from doing it over and over?

exactly what i do as well.

the doors on the 370Z seem stable, esp. compared to the doors on a 350Z. those doors seem to have an auto-close mechanism (for those of you that had or still have a 350Z, you know exactly what i'm talking about).

this is why I:

1. never volunteer to carpool
2. if i do give a ride to someone, i ALWAYS roll the passenger side window down BEFORE they exit and then roll up after they've closed the door.

Hey, don't judge all chicks by a few. :rofl2: I *always* use the door, NEVER the glass. My BIL closed the door using the glass and I wanted to smack him.

im not good at sharing MY STUFF either, but im married. just need to find the right girl.
