Doran for crying out loud and I believe the RC race car comes from Nissan with the cage already installed for $150,000! Show of hands who's smarter than a Nissan engineer?

You're talking about two totally different categories of people. Yes, the bar you're showing is very safe, well engineered, and probably four times the price. People looking this thread are not interested in spending that kind of money otherwise they wouldn't be looking at this thread.

This has turned into a thread about the RPM cages. People interested in these cages are more than likely comparing them to a harness bar. If you had a choice between a harness bar and the RPM cage, which would you rather have?

I'll bet you would take the RPM cage.

Hmmmm sounds like they stand by their product. I'm not going to argue over whether a custom built cage is safer than a bolt in cage, however if these guys can say "it will pass inspection or we'll give you your money back", that's a good starting point no? These look way safer than some of the garbage you see from china or japan.

:iagree: This and my intent was that others who had roll bars would post up and tell us about them, custom or otherwise. I think the reason no one has is because many are what you have posted, custom builds for straight up race cars. What many folks here are looking for is a reasonably price bolt on that would meet the standards of the sanctioning racing organization and/or would be useful for spirited driving. My assumption is that RPM is really the only one building a bolt on rollbar for our platform.

how much was the cage?

yes the first one is prob $3-4k but the others are in the $1000-1500 range. all im simply saying is make sure you say "its bolted to an unsafe, non-structural location" or just simply move the mount up a tad haha.

id rather bolt my belt to the cage, you're correct.

i think bolt in is plenty safe. thats why SCCA and NASA allow them. but they must bolt to the correct spots. ill have to read up on the SCCA hand book. i do believe they tell you where to go and how.

i agree. but i think the rear ones i showed like shovel, spohn and mike are just for street and HPDE days and only a little better than the RPM. i wouldnt call them race cars like Doran or the first one. ive said my piece, just want everyone to be aware and be safe.

Hotrodz 08-06-2015 11:13 PM

No worries man, I'm not knocking your opinion regarding the safety of the roll bars that you have posted but none of those individuals have weighed in, or are on the forum, or willing to provide information on their design. One thing is for sure, is that if someone post up a roll bar or full cage, they will get scrutinized and the opinions on safety abound. Not a bad thing, just a thing...my only aim is to provide information about the bar I have and RPM I reached out to RPM simply to clarify a couple of questions that I had received from interested members and after speaking with Dave he wanted to provide those interested members the opportunity to purchase his product.

That will all be done in separate thread for sure. :p

I don't know, they are waiting on the approval to be a vendor before they post.

I did notice one thing I wanted to add about the first pic and the yellow cars cage. I see their main hoop is mounted to the floor up on the gas tank ledge. In a full roof impact I don't think that's the best location. I don't think that ledge is stronger than doing it to the floor like RPM does. Under the main floor in that location is our square box frame rails. That floor plus the strength of the frame rail underneath should be crazy strong! Up on the ledge I believe that's thin sheet metal again and I'd hate to see the main hoop punch through the floor there. It's happened!

Hotrodz 08-07-2015 09:02 AM

The front bars are mounted through the frame!

MAMotorsports 08-07-2015 09:52 AM

I have actually spoken with RPM a little bit also about being active on here. And would be more than happy to set up a group buy if they would like to work with me on that also!

If anyone is interested in Pricing, PM me as there are a few options we can go over that would affect the cost!

Thanks
-Daelen

More options the better...we all win!
