Foldable Mirrors

Hey guys:hello:

I was wondering if your Z's come with automatic folding/unfolding mirrors from factory? I know the japanese models come with that option but unfortunately here in the states we do not get that :shakes head:

If you do have that option can someone please find out the price of the module to make the mirrors fold automatically? :tiphat:

It's not like European cars with the auto mirrors which folds when locking the door. Our cars that have this feature still need the driver to press a button to have the mirrors folded. Plus, the mirrors can only fold when the engine is on which is a really weird design to me.

Interesting, can you please take a picture of that button? is your Z a rhd or lhd?

Thanks :tiphat:

If you're really in Taipei, you're the wrong guy to reply to this thread, lol.

OP, the Z doesn't come with folding mirrors

I know but I also found that Japanese and some Europeans do have the folding mirrors, I just to see if Nissan decided to do that for only rhd countries? And if not if there is a way to buy the module lol

I just saw that you posted in the Europe section actually.

I bet it's for all the countries outside North America where Nissan has to compete with real high end sports cars like Mercedes and BMW.

I doubt its a module, I bet its the whole mirror assembly and switches. I asked my buddy in Japan to confirm that 370s in Japan come with them, or are optioned for them. I'll also ask him the cost once he confirms

Why does it matter if its RHD?

andy_meng1024 09-27-2014 06:58 AM

Mine is LHD and has the folding mirror feature. I'll get some pictures of it and the button when my car is back from getting a new roll cage.

Thanks! please do post pics when you get a change and a video if possible... btw are you able to close your mirrors when you lock your car?

Just curious as to how much would it cost to do...it will add an extra wow factor to the car...either way 98% of the time I always close my mirrors hahah

My guess is that it's for the same reason people install GT-R start buttons and other non-performance parts on a sports car - "because I like the way it looks." :driving:

Edit: Oops. Got distracted before I hit the post button and didn't see OP's reply.

The mirrors are going to be reversed...so objects are going to be closer on the wrong side etc. A fix for this can be installing aftermarket mirrors with wide angles..if they make them. Im not talking outta my azz..I did this on my previous car. Also.. for the mirror to fold and unfold...you need a relay and switch. I had a company in florida help me with it.

Driftomodachi 10-09-2014 09:57 AM

The mirrors snap on. Just snap the RHD ones off and attach the LHD ones. If not swap the motor assemblies attached to the USDM mirrors in place of the RHD ones and wire up the switch. Oh, you need the switch too

I dont recall that shizel when I was living in the UK, meaning the mirror wasnt etched about objects being closer or such on them. Maybe some cars have it now, who knows..

All I know is that my 1997 BMW M3 the driver side M3 mirror bracket was either slightly more longer or shorter than the passanger side. They were effectively different part numbers.

Check out a UK spec Zee. Notice one mirror sticks out further.

Mmm I didn't know that lol I have to check mine tomorrow lol....do you have that feature in your car?

Hello, hope it's not an issue to raise a really old thread, but I figured there's no point in starting a new one when this one fits the bill.

So, I have a 2009 370z, with the foldable mirrors. The car needs to be in the ACC mode to get the mirrors working. My question is - is it possible to have the feature automatic? So that I don't have to manually close/open mirrors, but that it happens automatically when I turn the car off/on?

Thanks for the info.

Hello Filip00, the answer to your question is yes. You can do that with a relay. Ignition on powers relay sends power to mirrors to open , and ignition off relay relaxes and power is sent to the mirrors to closed position. If you can get me the wiring diagram i can lay it out for you. Just remember that the switch on door will no longer work. You can only have one or the other. Also the door switch controls this function which makes it easy, cause it does not go through the BCM. I will require a bit of disassembly and at the end not worth the trouble unless you know someone that can do it correctly. I did convert my existing mirrors on my 2009 to folding mirrors and it works just like yours.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. my e-mail is : javbat@hotmail.com

Best Regards
Javier
