Rear diff bushings, gears, and cover

So I am getting some wheel hop and from what ive seen on the forums I assume it's my diff bushings. So I'm going to get the white line kit like everyone else, and while I am there I might as well put in some 4.08s and the nismo cover. Is there anything else I should be looking to do while the diff is dropped? Also my car only has 36,000 miles do I need to order the bearing and seal kit with the gears, should I just play it safe? I'm looking to drag my car more than track it and I saw the 4.36s but those are too much for daily driving right?
Thank you for any responses

Maybe upgrade the factory VLSD while you're at it. 4.08s I think would be plenty. I always believe in playing it safe when upgrading components or doing maintenance especially if it is going to be driven hard.

With that many miles I would definitely get new bearings, seals, and ring gear bolts. It's a pain in the **** to get back in there so change them out and don't worry about it. The amount of torque the bolts get from driving, then taking them out and then re-torqueing them acctually weakens the metal. Also plus one for upgrading the factory vlsd get a real diff while everything is out.

Are you going to install the gears yourself? If not, I would take it to a reputable shop that specializes in rear end rebuilds. If the backlash isn't set correctly, you can have major issues. I know from experience, lol

Op make a nice review out of this (Meaning Vids, Drag Vids, Slips etc) Good Luck on your build.

Now i remember back in 2012 i had a debate on this forum with somebody and i was saying that diff bushings cause wheel hop, in the end it turned out that the suspension causes wheel hop.

Soo lets have a debate? @gain...

correction, torque causes wheel hop:tiphat:

Yea there is no way I'm doing the gear change myself. And I'm going to get the z1 package that comes with everything. The bushings, fluids, and cover. As for the wheel hop, during the entire summer I never experiences wheel hop and then one day I noticed it and it has been getting worse and worse. I know the usual cause for wheel hop is suspension but i hope thats not my problem. I have seen a lot of people complain about the bushings causing wheel hop and when I looked under the car sure enough there was black fluid all over my diff and exhaust and the bushings look like crap. A whole new vlsd is alittle expensive

The z1 kit does not come with the bushings or cover. They include the bearings and seals that go inside the differential. That is all

Ahh I was thinking of the wrong kit, my mistake. For some reason I was thinking of the bearing kit they sell with the 4.08 gears. I dont know why I was thinking of that

SlowZ 11-29-2014 03:37 AM

I was thinking about doing the 4.36 with my nitrous build and slicks. It would have been a nasty low 11 second car. I say either 4.08 or if you can afford drag radials and have an amazing clutch than do the 4.36

Charles370 12-01-2014 04:36 PM

Yea I was thinking about the 4.36 just Cuz my friend with a Camaro has stock 3.33s and is gettin 4.10s, which is a common mod for those cars. So if those american muscle fools can handle it :) why can't the Z. Idk but the car is also a daily and I think the 4.36s might be just too much. Has anyone bought them And made a review?
