Exhaust cut-out

Does anyone know if these add decent gains?

On a stock car, no...

On a modded car, minimal...

On a heavily modified car, get ready for some neighbor hate....

A very small group of guys on the Corvette forum would add them to their exhaust systems, but to me it's a drag strip mod. No real need on the street unless you want to impress people with how loud and annoying your exhaust system can be. Just my .02....

No one here has them, I looked into electric cutouts not long ago and there is no simple spot to add them and as posted minimal gains v an aftermarket exhaust + test pipes/hfc. There is the Armytrix exhaust that is ludicrously priced that would have the same effect w/ test pipes.

I run electric cutouts on my heavily modified dodge ram. The noticeable gains were on the top end. Like mentioned, you'll see the most benefit with supporting mods. Besides that, it can also set off every single car alarm when I drive through a parking garage with it open.

Heh... I seem to keep parking next to a Honda Pilot, in my office's garage, that has an aftermarket alarm. The cold start sets that car's alarm off without fail. Sometimes twice, if the timing is right when I reverse out. I'm going to be putting the Motordyne cat on my Y pipe. It's too loud without one.

I have read that turbos can really help cut down the noise on a straight-through exhaust. How truthful is that, or is it still just as loud, but with the added wastegate noise?
