trouble shifting into 3rd 09 z

hey guys so i recently got my trans and diff fluid changed . i went with oem fluid from nissan. (no i didnt go redline for several reasons) anyways about 300 miles after the change..all shifts were smooth. then all the sudden today i was at a stop light, i go from 1st to 2nd then from 2nd to 3rd .. i could not get it into 3rd. it was just stuck. this happened 3 times before i got home. afterwards like 3 hours later i went back out to go get dinner...first couple of shifts were fine then it happened AGAIN. maybe i wasnt pushing the clutch all the way in. so from then on i made sure i pushed the clutch ALL THE WAY IN and then shifted to 3rd...still got stuck. im in panic mode because i just got the car it only has 21k miles on it and is not under warranty. im only 18 i dont have the money for a new trans nor the labor to put it in . worst part is sometimes i would try so hard to get it into 3rd i get it into first by accident and the RPMS go BOOMING. i need help with this problem guys please help me

Were you the one having trouble with the first to second gear before?
Now second to third?
Your on a roll!

No but on a more serious note. Try reflushing the fluids and try something else. I dont think its a problem with ur trans.

I wonder if the clutch needs bleeding...might not be releasing it fully. Easy to pop out, not so easy to get in.

Wish you were a little closer sometimes, would be easier to take it for a spin :-p

Also, if you're trying so hard to get it into 3rd that you are hitting first...don't take it personally, but I wonder if you're just a bit sloppy with the shifter and you are missing the gate. If the clutch wasnt releasing fully, it'd still go into gear - it'd just grind a bit. Even blown syncros are just going to cause a lot of grinding, which you aren't getting. Might want to work on your technique.

Dead serious lol. Im assuming you know how to drive stick fairly well, and another pair of eyes (or in this case, hands/feet) goes a long way towards solving almost ANY car problem.

yeah i do know how to drive it pretty well. bleeding the clutch would be the best bet before getting into anything serious like the slave cylinder which im praying to god i wont need replaced bc i honestly cant afford that right now

Minsu 07-21-2014 10:57 PM

Oooh morric county?! It's a nice drive up there tbh. About an hour away. I'm going to assume you have never driven any other z before this one? I'm going to say try tis, turn your car off and you should be able to shift without putting in the clutch just go through the gears like ten times, start the car, now clutch in abd ho through the gears ten times. Then try driving abd see if that will fix it. It can help you narrow down the issue

Minsu 07-21-2014 10:59 PM

I doubt it's the clutch as well, unless the previous owner looked to launch the car and rev high and burn clutch while at the same time crunching gears I doubt it

ok i will try that tomo before work. so 10 times clutch out start the car then 10 times clutch in? does the car have to be warm or can i do it on a cold start

jamesj1996 07-21-2014 11:00 PM
