Not saying its impossible but Dorans car was probably around 425whp/2999lbs with driver and fuel on full slicks with my buddy Steven driving the car. Going to be hard to get there with 100 less hp, 500 more lbs, and no slicks. shaving 20seconds off would be a huge undertaking. Good luck!

I love Elmo's enthusiasm and we don't get better without setting goals that are seemingly out of reach for a mere mortal. I have received one day of instruction from Steven (he has agreed to help me setup my Z suspension) and and spend time talking to him when we are at the track together. He is a wealth of information and the number one thing about being the fastest is going beyond skill! You have to have big balls:nutswinger:. When I have asked about going really fast he gave me the same response that I give people that ask me about carrying a gun for self protection..."is it worth it? Because consequences can be deadly."

I also set my goals high. You never know what you can do until you give it your all. Why limit yourself by setting a lower goal. You may be able to far exceed what you think you can do. I have taken some hate for it. Oh well, I will still set my goals high.

Rusty 11-01-2019 10:14 AM

I'm at that point in life where I'm not racing any more. But still loves to go fast. So my track driving is just before the hairy edge. About 8-10ths. I leave a little for those special moments. On the street. I never go above 7-10ths.

Agreed! It is not in my natural to do less than the best in anything I care about. I have always been an overachiever and I'm not changing now. LMAO, I think if you are reading and contributing to this thread you fall into the same mind set!!!

Yeap, I am like Rusty also though for car doings. At work, LOL, don't challenge me. I will pull one out my butt and keep doing so. I love a challenge when I get paid for it. LOL

austins z 11-01-2019 10:39 AM

Yeah my post meant no disrespect. We have the same goals! My goal is to have the fastest NA track prepped 370z in the states! That means running lap times without aero to beat Doran lap times, and after adding aero, I'll go after valkyrie's times! ;) To put this in perspective, I'm only 6 seconds off Doran's Mid-Ohio lap times with 100 less hp, an extra 350lbs, street tires instead of slicks.

No disrespect taken. I didn’t ever plan to challenge that time in NA trim, I simply don’t have the funds, time or necessary folks around to compete. I have the horsepower covered with my snail. Then baby step from there on 2:25 is my goal with oem suspension. In 6 track days I’ve shaved almost 30 seconds off my time st the track. Now I’ll be i a position to be behind the wheel slot more often

I think we all like the enthusiasm to some degree. I guess by that logic then it should be a close battle for us if we should ever meet on the track in current form since I'm about 7 seconds off of the Doran cars lap time at Laguna Seca on a stock exhaust, heat cycled SUR4G's, 303 whp and no ABS.

;)

I doubt it makes 400 WHP. More like 375 to 385hp at the wheel. If you want to hit 400hp and over you will need to build a stroker motor. Not cheap at all.

You'll be going deep into the motor.

Its finally happening. I'm going to take my shot at it! Head on over to my IG @austinhertel if you want to see the glorious JWT parts!

Build Plan:

JWT IMSA spec 12.5:1 Forged High Compression Pistons (96mm oversized)
JWT Custom C2 cams with custom base circle (to clear bigger valves)
VK56 OEM Exhaust Valves (+1mm larger +sodium filled)
Suckerpunch Motorsports Billet Oil Pump/Gears
Deatschwerks 600cc Injectors (e85 fuel)
Intake Manifold Porting
Headers (looking for a used set)
PC9 Coating on Pistons
Hitting up Charles for one of those beautiful billet baffled oil pans as well:stirthepot:
Dynosty Built and Tuned!

Goals: 380-400whp / 300-320wtq / 8000-8300rpms

What do you guys think? Can we hit those goals!?

I think so. Supposedly there's an unopened motor car(cammed, but stock internals/displacement/compression) that made 388whp/305wtq. I'm seeing some pretty sketchy stuff come out of the shop in the way of engine builds, so it makes me question the legitimacy of everything else as well, buuuuut...long story short, I believe you'll crack 400 NA w/ the extra RPM and compression. Good luck on this.

AlWakRa 01-22-2020 05:20 PM

Good luck Austin, I saw the parts in your IG, anyway I don't know if vvel will let you rev past 8k without issues.

Elmo370z 01-22-2020 06:50 PM

Love that my old thread has sparked what I have up on. Definitely sub’d about constantly banging 8,300 with touching the intake side of things. 400 will need more compression and serious motor work. Adding a dry sump and ported heads would probably touch that mark.

So everyone who laughed at me many years ago when I started the thread, well here it is. No it isn’t my car but my theory was proven right, 400whp is possible on a NA VHr

Definitely. I just did all that with smaller cams in stock heads and dry sump in a factory short block.

Well it’s STD so...no.

LMAO, if you don't know the history on this build or the person that is responsible for it, you are sadly mistaken. If it gonna get done this build has a better chance than any so far.

Someone just rebuilt an NA engine to 13:1 and did 403hp on E75. Of coarse it had supporting mods. Still haven't figured out why he didn't upgrade the exhaust cams. It was on SOHO's Instagram.

The car on Soho's page had C2 cams... stock headers though

EDIT: I was incorrect, the owner chimed in and actually has Z1 headers. Awesome build and results either way

And a stroker IIRC

Whjaxn17 11-05-2020 10:44 AM

BC 92mm stroker crank

13:1

JWT C2 cams

Z1 headers

Z1 intakes with upgrade

OEM GTR injectors

and "all of the full bolt ons available from Z1" which I assume means ported upper and lower as well

403whp/314wtq on E75 - it was run out to ~8,100rpm on the dyno, but actually peaked right around 7,600rpm

That stroke motor power comes on sooner vs the stock compression motor. Very interesting too see the difference in power delivery. This Jun cams seem like they love the higher Rpms. Be interesting to see if 1slow were to rev out to 9k.
