Ester - Synthetic top-off

I did try to search this topic but did not come up with any clear answer.

If you use Nissan Ester Oil can you top off with a full synthetic such as Mobil 1 ?

I appreciate y'all input.

Define "top off". Are you adding a splash or a quart? I don't know why you would have any issues mixing two similar oils of the same weights, but if you're adding a lot I'd probably get the same stuff that's already in there just to satisfy my OCD.

I would say the typical top off 1/8 of a quart or so if needed.

Just dump in any synthetic of the right weight for that small of a quantity.

Is it me, the warmer climate or does the Ester Oil heat up faster than the Mobil 1 synthetic oil??

I noticed right after the oil change the temps climb quickly... I hit 200-205 just cruising (68 degree weather) and I have a 25 row cooler

Nissan ester is waste of $$$, just run a full syn of your liking. Been running rotella 5w-40 since I went FI, first time I will make it to 3k without having to add oil.

Joepro 04-25-2014 05:37 AM

Ya like yours

synolimit 04-25-2014 06:18 AM

O yeah you must with FI!

megalapagas 04-25-2014 01:14 PM

@Synolimit: what if it rains? Is there any issue with water going through your vent? Noob question....

synolimit 04-25-2014 02:29 PM

No. Motor and plugs and sealed. You never wash an engine before? Plus there's dozens of cars out there with hood vents. I'm sure you've seen the Evo has pretty much the same thing.
