guy wouldnt smog my car becuase of intake

so ive had my 370z nismo for about a good month now and loving it. In my registration process with the car i went to a local smog shop next to my house. The guy opens the hood and goes "i cant smog it" . I asked why and he said that i have an aftermarket intake. which is the K&n typhoon intake(the car already had the intake installed when i bought it). He was claiming its illegal etc and that he would have to find the confirmation code with the DMV. WTF!!!???

Im so confused has anyone had a problem with there intakes? especially k&n? i though all k&n were legal.

dont know what to do?? Or please someone tell me this guy is a dumba!@!#!#

No señor. I'm sorry to break it to you. But you're the dumb áss this time.
The only intakes I know of that are CARB approved are from Stillen. You get a nice sticker with them saying they are CARB approved and the smog guy sees it and says, OK CARB approved

Sorry, AEM's are as well. Which is funny, because they are owned by K&N

This Typhoon Air Intake cannot be sold in California. It is not legal for use in California or other states adopting California emission standards. Check the K&N catalog or website vehicle parts search for specific CARB status.

What year is your 370Z?

Find another smog shop or go back to stock intakes for the smog

Some shops have told people that they won't smog them here in Cali but the 3 that I have been to have smogged me with my aftermarket intake

Smog shops are not dumb. There's a reason why they are in business and make money. They hear a car with a loud exhaust driving in they know what's up. I don't have to do it for a while but will need to start looking at a place that will pass me. I'm going to where DE.50 and Waizz recommends. The problem CA has is enforcement. Too many cars, too many smog shops, some in bad neighborhoods for them to effectively oversee. They can do randoms but that is not effective to check on compliance. You should find another one. Being conservative here I think one in 5 shops will take you. Passing you is another story.

Doesn't matter, Stillen took the time to get CARB approval for their product configuration and K&N didn't

Just because it is using one of the parts it doesn't automatically mean it's also under the same umbrella

Changing fuel trims can be affected by the filter element. If they all use K&N they should all be legal or illegal. If they didn't pay for the testing then fine, but why k&n wouldn't makes no sense.

... You don't know how it works in CA. Every design needs to get CARB approved. Doesn't have a god damn thing to do with the type or brand or design of filter. It's intake system as a whole. K&N is just popular because it's popular.

Its a 2010 ... Dam so if they tested it ..it would fail? Or do they just dont want to test it so they don't get in trouble ?
