RS-R Ran-Up Engine Oil Treatment
So after I built my engine my car was VERY quiet, people commented on how quiet my engine was and all was right with the world. After the break in period around 3,000 miles I switched to synthetic oil and my engine sounded like a direct injected diesel, loud and obnoxious, everything was ruined. I've been pretty bummed about this for awhile so I tried switching oil, first I tried mobile 1 10w-40, then redline 10w-40, no noticeable reduction in noise (though redline actually ran a few degrees cooler in summer heat).
10k miles later and the car is running great but the engine is still loud, and I ran across this article on RS-R's Ran-Up oil treatment. Quote:
https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/...95616917_n.jpg I decided to take a before and after video, and boy am I glad I did. This stuff works amazingly well, listen for yourself. This was taken the same day, the oil was recently changed (10w-40), the engine was fully warmed up in the before/after videos. All I did was drive the recommended 30 miles after adding the oil treatment, thats it. I haven't driven it much beyond the initial mileage so I will update this thread with further impressions but as of right now I plan on adding this with every oil change (only about 2-3 a year as this is not my daily driver). Note: I have no affiliation with RS-R and they didn't pay me to post this, I was just so fcuking excited about the drastic reduction in noise and i wanted to share my results with the community. |
Snake oil

did you even bother to listen to the video I posted? |

just to be clear, I have no affiliation with RS-R, and they didn't pay me to post this, I was just so ******* excited about the difference I thought others would be too |
Thanks for the heads up! Will try this out with my next oil change
|
That before sounds like you have an F 350 idling next to the z. Sounds like a pretty dramatic change though.

Why are you running 10-40 when the mfg states 5-30 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/.../confused1.gif

My issue is, why does the OP think 0W-20 is ok to run now??? EDIT: I guess you only use 300mL of this in an oil change? |
OP, did you ever use Nissan's Ester oil?
I ask because Nissan's ester oil has a very high amount of molybdenum in it, which is a metal lubricant. And it's recommended to lower valve chatter in our cars. Combine Mo with 0W-20, presto chango, extra HP, and a quieter motor... All at the expense of, well... $50... It could also be boric acid added to the oil, and whenever these ASSH̉LES write "nano" anything, they write that JUST to sound cool, never believe the claims for what's in the bottle when you see them advertising "nano" |

I will be giving the ester oil a try as well, I did consider it but my valvetrain chatter seems to be quite unique. Plenty of people (including myself before the build) ran other oil with no noise issues. I suspect that my VVEL did not like the engine break in oils used. |

This thread has got me overly intrigued...
I'll call them up and see if they want to dyno my car, I'm local-ish... Let them do 10 runs pre and post? There's a post that someone with an NSX tried it out, and it worked well... I really want to see what an oil analysis would reveal. Looking at the bottle again, it doesn't say that it is safe for catalytic converters, so maybe it's ZDDP, making it essentially fancy break in oil. |
And we have a winner. NASA has used MoS2 and PFPE in space (damn you NASA for being down, that was a tad harder to find)
MoS2 - Molybdenum disulfide PFPE - too long to write, it's a sister to PTFE (designed as a liquid form of PTFE) PTFE - Teflon, novel idea, but it's old school Slick50, works, but Teflon builds up and can cause blockage of oil passages in small areas. All that being said, you'd still need an oil analysis to see if it's MoS2, PFPE, or ZDDP, or a mix of them |
it's not Teflon. and they will do before/after dyno for you, they asked to do my car but I'm not local.

Just going off the "Space" claim, it's either PFPE or MoS2. If they are adding their own twist, I'd assume ZDDP. |

This is pretty interesting. would also like to see dyno numbers. how often do you have to use it?
|
I've had 6 Nissan's Ester oil changes and another scheduled next Saturday...and I don't plan on changing to anything else...Sounds smooth like the day she left the show room.

Millions of ceramic nano ball bearings, **** if nano bearings work this well sny body want to try putting some .01 diameter bearings in there engine?
