Question regarding CAI and Oil Temp
 

I just installed my stillen G3 intakes abt 3 weeks ago and I've been noticing that my oil temp has a harder time staying below 220°, has anyone had a similar situation or does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm starting to worry since I'm reaching 230° on the regular. Please help and thanks in advance

The temps are still within the normal range.

Only worry if your temps hover over 260 at which I would suggest an oil cooler.

These cars are picky about spirited driving which translates into higher than normal oil temps.

Just some advise, If your caught with a higher than normal temp? Turn on the AC, Turning on the AC will lower the oil temps by at least 10º.

try an oil pan spacer or a bigger oil pan before worrying about an oil cooler, from what i have been told, an oil pan spacer will help with cooling since there will be an extra quart of oil in the stump as opposed to the way it works now where very little oil is in the stump because all the oil is being cycled through the car when under spirited driving

I'd find the extra money for a 18 or 25 row well worth it. Oil capacity will increase and get additional cooling. I'd do a pan spacer with an oil cooler mod too for even more cooling.I don't see a pan spacer making a large enough diff on it's own in terms of cooling. Just my thoughts.

i think it depends on what kind of driving is done with the pan spacer, if you're talking about street driving with some spirited driving, i think it will make a difference

oil coolers are still the best way to cool oil though, i only recommend the pan spacer because it is cheap to do and it might help out on the streets

An oil cooler will help far more than the spacer. My cooler added nearly as much capacity as the oil pan spacer as well. The spacer also makes your oil pan the lowest point of the car, which I'm not comfortable with.

The OP's problem is that since he installed the CAI. His oil temps went up. I believe he is in the throttle more now because he is hearing the intake noise, and likes what he hears. :driving:

I have both the AAM oil pan spacer and the Z1 34 row oil cooler. That's about 8 quarts of oil.

My guess as well. It's hard not to romp on it after you install a mod.

You may want to consider the hot weather we've been experiencing in So Cal as a prime contributing factor. It's been abnormally hot and humid here.

I would still consider an oil cooler though. 220-230 in traffic during the summer was normal for me. I reached 260 on my way to Vegas in 120 degree heat going up hill. A 25 row cooler was installed a couple of weeks after that.

I noticed you live in SoCal and as you know.......it might be the weather. My Z (stock) also increased in oil temp to around 220 (normally 190~200). 230 is no big deal.

I also agree that it might be the weather.. It's been pretty hot lately.

But for peace of mind, try installing the OEM intake box to see if your oil Temps go down like they used to be. If they don't go down then it was the the cali heat :)
