Air Conditioning Leaking
 

It's been humid and in the 80's and 90's here the last little while and I've just noticed that the passenger floor is soaked! The A/C has obviously been leaking for a while as the floor is wet right back to beside the passenger seat. I hate taking the car into the dealer and was wondering if anyone here has had the same problem and if there was a quick fix? Any advice is appreciated!

I suggest just letting the dealer fix it under warranty, And not worry about trying to fix it yourself.

Your plug is clogged.

Made an appointment to take it in to the dealer tomorrow.....had to....the windows fog up at night to the point of not being able to see....just hope its not something like a cobweb blocking the drain tube that's not covered under warranty after they pull the dash apart!?!! Will let you know.

Well, hopefully, the problem is fixed! Nothing definitive found - no cracked housing or disconnected drain line - so it is assumed that the drain line was clogged. I say "assumed" because the end of the line is virtually unaccessible. The tube apparently exits through the firewall above the passenger footwell and then snakes down into the frame behind the inner wheel well. The mechanic popped off a couple of grommets holding the plastic wheel well liner in place and still couldn't access the end of the drain. Next step was to go back into the car and disconnect the line from the evaporator housing and simply blow the thing out with compressed air, and hope for the best. Despite having originally told me that it would not be covered under warranty the Dealer did not charge anything. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Wonder how long it will take for the carpet to dry completely....windows are covered inside in condensation every morning. I guess we will see. Thanks for the comments.

I would leave it in the Sun with the windows barely opened if in public or fully opened at home if in the driveway and its safe to do so.

I just had my whole a/c replaced under warranty. The evaporator core was bad and my warranty was about to be up in 2 days. Talk about a near miss.

Removing the floormats and/or using a fan will help. You want to dry it out ASAP so mold/mildew doesn't get a chance to take hold.

OK, so I think I have a relevant issue. I have been having this issue for quite some time now and I have a service date set up for next Friday. When I wash my car water gets into my passenger side floorboard. I have posted about this extensively. The service manager seems to think that it has something to do with a plugged ac line. I really don't think so but we will see. They originally tried to tell me that the undercarriage wash had knocked a grommet loose on the firewall and they popped it back in, but I had the problem while hand-washing it. I guess we will finally see what the issue is since I have raised so much hell about it now. I will repost when I have my answers... GOOD LUCK!!

Guys, i now have the same issue with this passenger footwell drenched with water. Any simple fix or solution ? I figure it could either be the AC drain leak or cat leak - highly unlikely as i dont smell exhaust allthough my undercarriage is pretty much bang up due to it sitting low. I first notice steam coming off the passenger side as it is hot after a good run, then only i reallize my mat and carpet were all drenched. Couldnt find any drip of water coming off below the glove compartment so it has to seap from the floorboard somewhere.

I would remove the carpet and get underneath it.
The drain plug, mine was doing this and we tore it out the other day was clogged, is under the carpet behind a piece of stryofoam. You will not see it unless you dig it all out.

Any chance you've had some audio work done. I had the same problem on the drivers side, after looking under the hood, I noticed that the wire that feeds power from the battery to the amp was pulled through the side of a grommet in the firewall:mad: Had to silicone it, which took care of the problem.

Most likely your drain is clogged. If I'm not mistaken, it's tucked away pretty good, so good luck getting at it!

Same **** happened to me. Previous owner had a small system with the power wire fed through same grommet. But these tards that installed just made a hole in the grommet, grommet must have came loose from the whole while they were feeding, attempted to put it back in and broke one of the two clips and just left it open. Found out after a year owning it that every time I washed the car by hand it rained like a waterfall into the passenger foot well. I actually ran it through a touchless one night, first/last time, for a quick dust off and hit the road and that is how I found out. So mad. Was a major PITA to get that grommet to sit back. Now I think it is leaking through the hole they made to get the wire through. Going to go back in and rubber cement it too....
