370Z Problem (tranny?)

Hello there

I drive a 370Z (6MT) and other than replacing a fuel pump the car has been good... However, the other day I was cruising on the highway in Sport Mode, I decided to down-shift from 5th to 3rd, it shot up to around 4000RPM and the car just freaked! Well, the car didn't quite turn off but all the gauge lights turned on and I couldn't shift into any gear, I slowly pulled over to the side of the road and turned it off, it then started up just fine but the "Service Engine' light is now on....

Any idea on what this means? The light is still on whenever I drive the car (service engine soon) and I haven't had it in Sport since the incident. It seems to be fine at the moment...

I hope this isn't anything expensive... Any ideas?

:eekdance:

Beg/borrow/steal an OBD scanner and see what error code(s) (DTC) show up. If you don't want to buy one, most auto parts stores will loan/rent you one for next to nothing.

Write down the DTC(s) and then clear using the scanner.
Edit: Once you have the DTC(s), head for Google.

Once you know what the car thinks is wrong, you can start troubleshooting.

I'm guessing that you have dirty MAFs.
