clutch questions
 

so in my boost prep i'm looking to order a performance clutch kit that won't burn up with a few hard launches or aggressive driving. i will also prolly go ahead and get a HD csc to do while i'm in there.

my question is, do i absolutley need a new flywheel? reason i ask is i dont even have 5k on my current one, as it was replaced under warranty by the dealer when they put in a new trans for me. so its still very new. thoughts?

also, i am looking for a clutch that feels similar to stock, but can handle the added torque. my buddy had a super hd clutch in his sti and it was like an on/off switch. made driving it on the streets very unpleasant. so basically, what do you guys recommend as a streetable performance clutch?

Curious as well. I think a lot of people that upgrade the flywheel go with a lightweight one.

We have a 2011 Nismo Z here using this kit:
Z1 370Z / G37 Clutch and Flywheel combo

I can't comment on longevity but it does drive very nicely. I believe it uses a Exedy clutch disc and an upgraded pressure plate. Pedal feel is kept very light like the OEM clutch but feels great with the upgraded CSC. They rate it at 500wtq, we pushed it to about 380wtq with the Stillen kit. It engages very smoothly and the Organic disc allows for some slip. You might not get the lowest 60ft time but this clutch seems to be able to hold some power.

We did not have good success with the ACT HDSS unit we originally utilized in one of the twin turbo cars we've built. We switched to the OS Giken twin disc in that car recently. It drives nice but it is very aggressive engagement especially when cold. I bet you could rip a 60ft with it with the right tires though!

A few of my supercharged guys are still on the stock clutch. They have pretty conservative driving habits though.

im thinking if some of the sc guys are on stock clutch. then i should have no problems with keeping the stock (barely used) flywheel in the car. just do a csc and pressure plate update and call it good

I went to Joe at ZSpeed with almost all of the same questions and he recommended the South Bend Stage 3 Daily

ZSpeed also has their own upgraded CSC and quite a few options for flywheels

My clutch disk is ceramic. It takes the heat and torque... prob won't last as long, but at least it won't weld itself to the flywheel.

Are you doing the labor/install on your own or paying a shop? I rather do everything all at once to a avoid either situation.

If its funds ATM that this is about, I understand. The clutches mentioned should be good for what you want. As long as your not looking to track/drag alot. Then just an upgraded clutch and or stock will hold fine if your not looking to abuse it.

My stock clutch has been holding up for the last two years on N20. I don't spray daily but almost bi-monthly at the track dragging though. I do feel a little slippage already but it has been a long time already especially with how I drive.
