early oil change

well my question is it okay to change oil now. i only got 300 miles on it.

AK370Z 07-16-2009 02:57 AM

Nissan recommends 3750 Miles for first oil change. I did my first oil change at 2000 miles. After break in period is a good time to do oil change if you like early oil change.

Phimosis 07-16-2009 03:06 AM

I had an oiler cooler put on at 1100 miles at the Nissan dealer so I had them change the oil and put ester oil in it. It was probably still a little early as your making metal shavings from break in, but it's not like metal shavins stop, they just decrease. I'll probably change it around 3500 too.

thispecialk 07-16-2009 03:48 AM

He oil cooler was is Nissan brand? Is it covered by warranty

Phimosis 07-16-2009 03:52 AM

It's Setrab brand from Stillen. Stillen warranties the cooler. Nissan warranties the install. It was like $400 for the cooler, $400 for the install, including oil change, but they forgot to charge me for the new filter. Nissan Ester oil is almost $12 a quart.

thispecialk 07-16-2009 04:11 AM

I didn't know dealership install aftermRket parts when I had my scion dealer didn't want to install aftermarket stuff. Anything u have to do different maintence wise of having a oil cooler

GMZ 07-16-2009 09:22 AM

Ima change mine this weekend @ 750 mi

nogoodname 07-16-2009 09:33 AM

i'd wait till break in to change it and just follow regular oil change routine.

shabarivas 07-16-2009 12:53 PM

I changed it a couple hundred miles shy of 2k miles like AK ...

tranceformer 07-16-2009 01:04 PM

I had mine done at 1100 miles.

mrarroyo 07-16-2009 03:49 PM

I have always changed the oil and filter in all my new cars at 1,000 miles. I will be doing so next week on my Z, chances are I will use Mobil 1 5-30 extended performance.

thispecialk 07-16-2009 08:45 PM

so many different opinions. is it safe thought to change early? im go with royal purple

nogoodname 07-16-2009 08:48 PM

On another thread because I explained exactly what u said to someone.
(Except I told them the cooler was 780 from nissan)
Saying I didn't know what I was talkin bout. Lol.
Glad to read someone got it done at nissan under warranty. :)
Ur my proof.

arcticreaver 07-20-2009 11:53 AM

Viera 07-20-2009 12:17 PM

Did my first at 1000. =)

LiquidZ 07-20-2009 12:25 PM

I did my first change at about 950 miles before heading out on a long trip.

JvKintheUSA 07-22-2009 08:03 PM

Changed my oil at 1,500 miles to Mobil 1 fully synthetic.

I wouldn't use that stuff, it contains Molybdenum Disulfide.

It can eventually clog your oil system in general.

NASCAR uses it because their cars don't last long anyway. It's like a person taking drugs to improve short term functionality.

Just my opinion.

GMZ 07-25-2009 09:55 PM

Just changed mine today @ 950 with dino

355890 07-25-2009 10:03 PM

Yes...Changed oil at 1,000 miles and introduced it to Royal Purple 5 W 30.

I will now be on a schedule of a 3,000 mile refresh.

Back in the day, it was recommended to wait 3000 miles before you switch to synthetics. That's no longer the case, as current engine manufacturing technologies do not require you to break-in an engine. Many manufacturer's use synthetic's right out the door because of this.

True, my reasoning for going with dino is I keep the OCI to about 1-2K mi until the 1st recommended change so itd be a waste of $$$ to go with syn. Grabbed 5qts of Quaker State at China Mart for $10.

Yeah, most people wait to switch the oil due to saving money. A very high quality synthetic costs quite a bit. Since the engine doesn't require a break-in to begin with, there are no "imperfect" parts that are rubbing together anyway, so it's not like you're risking damage to anything.

It comes down to synthetics are great for improved gas mileage, and extended drain intervals.

Here's my plans when I get my car:

Drive 50 miles - do oil change w/ nissan ester + oil filter
drive 500 miles, oil change w/ nissan ester + oil filter
drive to 2,000 miles - do oil change to full syn w/ esters + oil filter

A lot of people give me crap for my thought process on oil changes on brand new cars, but im ok with that. I have inspected my oil after 50 miles of driving (new motors), and this is the outcome inside of 50 miles:

there's so much metal crud in there, imagine how blocked the oil filter must be, and imagine those metal peices flying around your engine for 2,000 miles!

Looks like your brain and you are thinking about your exahust system... well that's what I get from the pic at least...

:werd:

I don't see any oil either.

Cjanik 08-05-2009 02:20 PM

Heh, not sure if your both being sarcastic or not about not seeing the oil. You see the exhaust reflection on the oil that was just drained, the drain pan is still under the vehicle. The "brain" is the crud inside the oil.
