Bang for the Buck Mod.

Ok so I did try the search function so don't burn me too hard on this if it is a repost, after getting to page five on multiple keywords I gave up.

For those of you that have started the modding process what have you found to be the best bang for the buck mod to be? i.e. The most power per dollar or the most visually pleasing or most useful item per dollar.

For those of us trying to find a good place to start with our mods lets hear it from those of you who have taken the plunge!

nogoodname 07-14-2009 09:06 PM

i would say HFC's...good sound...good gains...not too expensive
get rid of some restricted exhaust air flow

370zdub 07-15-2009 12:00 AM

Thanks for the quick reply! I figured that would be a popular one seeing as it does yield great results for the price.

Anyone else have any other ones they feel may be the best bang for the buck?

SnakeBitten 07-15-2009 03:52 PM

Any gear sets yet for the 370? That was a great bang for buck mod on the 350z.

FuszNissan 07-15-2009 03:54 PM

Gen 3 intakes
Berk HFC's(as mentioned above)
That's about it for bang for the buck.
Haven't seen gear sets yet

FricFrac 07-15-2009 04:01 PM

CBE will give you a tiny bit more than the HFC at twice the price but definately a nice sound. I'd go for all three for the best bang for the buck ;P Depending on how much a dyno tune is for you may also be a good value...

av370 07-16-2009 02:34 PM

I havent tried it yet but the grounding kit seems to have good reviews.

test pipes...best bang for buck period

black09Z 07-16-2009 06:58 PM

yeah, i think the test pipes would be the best. but high flow cats are more popular because they are good for emissions test states and arent as raspy. im interested in the gear sets too. how much would these run if they came out, anybody know how much they are for the 350? J/W

FuszNissan 07-16-2009 07:07 PM

I paid like 500.00 for gear set for my 03 350 susposed to be a 10% increase of power across all gears, I liked them.

370zdub 07-16-2009 11:17 PM

I like all of these ideas. They each seem to have a great benefit at respectable prices for the performance you are getting. Keep the ideas coming.

In terms of power added per dollar, you can't go wrong with HFCs and the Stillen Gen 3 intake. A good CBE is a must too and works nicely in conjunction with both, but they tend to cost a good deal more per horsepower than either of those.

On the handling side, swaybar upgrades are pretty cheap and dead easy to install, and provide a nice bump in handling ability. Better brake pads (I'm liking my Hawk HPS ones for street use) are cheap too, and swapping pads on this car is very easy (you don't have to remove the calipers, the pads simply slide in and out of the back of the caliper).

Test Pipes as said above those are the best bang for buck mod period

Test pipes and Reflash look the best so far.

Vinyl...good for 15whp...and it's cheap! ;)

I actually heard that by just putting a Nismo sticker on your car you pick up 8.1452whp. My dealer suggested that if I put two on then it would be exponential and cause it to quadruple :)

ErnieT 07-18-2009 06:10 AM

Is there a re-flash yet for the 370? If so who?

semtex 07-18-2009 08:28 AM

Technosquare. Try looking in the Tuning section.

Dee@Amplified 08-03-2009 10:44 PM

Most of your basic bolt ons will do the trick: Intake, Headers, Exhaust, High Flow Cats/test pipes.

Good one would be some lowering springs, brake pads, rotors, stainless steel brakelines.

or you can get some NOS with all that :)

1 gut the car of weight
2 brake pads
3 test pipes
4 buy my take off parts as I upgrade ! (http://www.the370z.com/parts-sale-pr...tires-etc.html)

370zdub 08-05-2009 11:30 AM

All of these are great ideas. I think one of the absolute best things you can do like Travis said is get weight out of the car. Maybe not as extreme as Shariff is getting but improving upon the power to weight ratio by simply ditching the things that are not needed in the car is cheap and easy. I like all of these ideas and I hope some other noobs are finding this useful as well.

it really only depends on what you place on your car tho.
i.e. nogoodname's face vs my face is like 300whp difference.

nogoodname 08-05-2009 02:06 PM

^^ in my favour...

Shunya 08-05-2009 02:34 PM

yeah with nogood's face you gain 300whp

with my face the cars around ur car will lose 300whp lol

370zdub 08-05-2009 05:40 PM

Hey... uh nogood how about you post up a pic of just your face. I am all about smoking the twin turbo Z's! I'm sure some of the other guys on here would be pumped for another 300whp.

JBMS 08-06-2009 11:27 AM

Amplified mentioned boost juice.

That's by far the best bang for your buck. 100+ hp for less than $1500 installed and tuned by a dynoshop, can't touch that.

(BTW, we are having a sale by on Nitrous for the 370Z, take a look here"
