My Z is out of commission

So took my Z back to the dealership today to follow up on my car burning up oil so quick. After waiting for a while Nick comes up to me with a serious face and asks if I need anything out of my car. I was like "just my CDs why?" He tells me that I have a rental car waiting for me outside due to a serious engine oil consumption problem and that it's rare to see it in 370Zs  Then explains that they are gonna have to rebuild my engine. So for now i'm driving around in a rental Ford Fusion.:crying:

Z-Girl 12 01-25-2013 06:41 PM

Rebuild? What? Crap!?

HArturo319 01-25-2013 06:41 PM

Ok not to laugh but i totally pictured you in a hospital getting bad news like your left testicle had to be removed.

but still, sorry hear that bro

Trips 01-25-2013 06:44 PM

At least be glad warranty will cover it and It's getting fixed on them.

Sucks to hear nonetheless

Tribalpinoy91 01-25-2013 06:44 PM

Whats the mileage

JungleZ 01-25-2013 06:44 PM

Wow I would be pissed, freaking nissan

TreeSemdyZee 01-25-2013 06:51 PM

So they replace the engines in the 350s with this problem, but they are just going to rebuild you 370?

I would raise holy hell and put a chunk under it. That is B.S. dude.

Not good. It is not rare for oil consumption in the 370Z, as your tech stated. Also, per the TSB, they owe you a short block, not a rebuild.

Waiz 01-25-2013 07:15 PM

Oh no, I have heard of this happening with another member before but he didn't get it fixed

Hang in there and keep an eye on it after you get it back, these things have a way of coming back if they don't do it properly

yah he said it was rare due to them only having an engine oil consumption problem on one 350z that they had to deal with. Thanks for the info bro

Japanjay 01-25-2013 08:22 PM

Call consumer affairs and bitch like hell. That is what I did. Got 3 car payments in the form of a check to cover 2 months of down time. The extra car payment was to cover the insurance. And yes you are due a short block. Really isnt hard for the dealership to get the approval on. Plus for the time down I had a rental car. It should have only been down for 2 weeks but had a nagging code issue after the install. Took another month and half to figure out the piping right after the pre cat 02 sensor and the cat had a hairline crack in it. Was throwing a lean code in the left bank but really wasnt lean in the motor. I am on my third motor. Hopefully this one do the same. About to do my first really oil change after the 1k break in.

damn!!! yah i got error codes stating multiple misfires and a too lean code error myself. since it's still under warrenty nothing comes out of pocket including the rental.

roy'sz 01-25-2013 11:53 PM

What dealership were u at? How much oil were you consuming?

DLSTR 01-26-2013 04:35 AM

Hopefully the repair/replace will go well. Its under warranty now and after the job is done. Enjoy the rental and look foward to the Z when its back online. I dont quite get all the chatter about this.

The system is working the way it should. The dealer and Nissan are taking care of it. There are lots of other marque's with plenty of stories like this to begin with. Nothing new in the car world.

Fontana Nissan...It's practically empty at 1000 miles after a fresh oil change

roy'sz 01-26-2013 12:01 PM

Oh wow, I saw a monterey blue Z at raceway the other week and it was getting the rear main replaced :(. Have you ever been to raceway?

Use to take it there for all my services but stopped due to quality of work and poor customer service

roy'sz 01-26-2013 12:17 PM

Oh ok glad to hear we are on the same opinion as them. They ADDED oil to my car when I had 250 miles on the pan of oil. To the point where it was at the hump on the high side. Thats over a quart of oil!!!! Very incompetent people that work there. Isn't Fontana mod fiendly?

Good luck on your repairs. Fontana will do it right. Talk to the GM. Shoot the bull. By the way, he loves to talk about watches and is a collector. Friendly guy.
