Redline Diff and MT Oil
So I'm at about 18k miles and want to change the diff and tranny oil. I've been cruising the website trying to figure out which oil I wanted to use. Redline seems to be the most popular upgrade so I figured I'd get me some of that! Start looking at the websites and see the cost is somewhere between 10.49 and 11.99 and start running through the checkout. Then I see the $40 for shipping and I'm thinking WTF it's only 7qts of oil, probably 10lbs or so. Go on to the next website, same thing. So I figure I'll check the O'Reilly's website and they're selling a case for 129 or something like that. Not sure how many are in a case but I don't need that much. So Saturday morning I drop by my local O'Reilly's, San Jose on Branham lane. There's 2 pretty cool guys at the counter and I tell them what I'm looking for and how I don't want to pay the 40$ shipping that's on the websites. He asks how much the websites are charging and I tell him 10.99. One guy, I think the manager, says they used to sell it but he's not sure he can get it. (Probably in the Kragen's days) He calls and says he can get it and would give it to me for the 10.99. So I go ahead and order it. Dropped by again at 4:00pm to pick it up, half way expecting them to say they had some issue with shipping but there it was. Awesome! Been going to that store off and on since the early 80s. They've got me as a fan again.

Redline Diff and MT Oil
Just thought I'd pass along my experience on Saturday. Wanted to change my manual transmission and differential oil with the good Redline stuff. The MT85 (GL4) and the 75W90 (GL5). Long story short, I saved the $40 shipping from the forum's favorite websites by going to O'Reilly's and asking the guys at the counter. Specifically the San Jose, Branham Lane O'Reilly's. 10.99 each quart, no shipping charge. They had to special order it but got it the same day! Not sure the other O'Reilly's will do it but the guys on Branham did. +1 to those guys!

i want my 2 minutes back..... :P

40$ shipping!? I just ordered from redline, 5qts oil, 3qts tranny gear oil, and 2qts AT fluid.. Shipping to Texas was no where near 40$. You sure that wasnt for 2day shipping or something?
|
Nope, California, and it was the Fed Ex ground if I remember right, cheapest option. Guy at O"Reilly's thought it might be some funky environemental tax for CA only.

there's a place off Katella that sells redline oil in house. Not sure where you are located but I picked 4qts of trans and 3 of diff and it totaled out a lil over 100. Make sure you are on a level surface and that your diff is level when filling it. Also are you aware that your diff and trans is good for 30k?

My thinking...
30k Under normal driving 15k Severe duty (if I remember my manual correctly) Heard there's a lot of metal shavings the fist couple of changes My driving is not severe duty but not average either, maybe 20-25k range. Figured I'd do the first 2 a little conservative and then move to the 30k intervals once the early life wear is over. 30k is probably way overkill anyway. 4+3 quarts was somewhere around $85. |
Order from thmotorsports. Free shipping :)

Oh and btw. I change my diff every oil change. Last time i had 4k and two track days and it was toast.

Not bad, only $2 more a quart. Looks like a good site, adding them to my favorites.

thanks! They're close to me and have helped me out in the past.

not bad, i paid the same price online when i saw a deal (10.99/quart + free ship). and the 75W90 i got was like 15/quart from winchester auto. darn! |
Yeah, I think it's a really good deal. Told them I would post it on line and not to be surprized if there were a few more z guys showing up for oil. Bet they can get the motor oil too. I'm going to keep running the ester oil though.
