Manual transmissions in general just aren't what they used to be.
With all these computers and sensors being attached to engines n trannies.
The have more quirks than ever b4.
In the beginning they made all these gadgets to make autos as good as manuals.
Now they are putting technology to make manuals better than automatics.
So the manuals of the last few years are new tech.
New tech means more problems.
I wish u guys the best when dealing with your service depts. With these issues

this is a common problem for some, from my understanding its cause there is one less synchro for the sixth gear than the rest of the gears. when it gets bad, take it in and youll get a new tranny

I'm guessing that's y i hear a lot of people say that's y they prefer 5speeds?
Well good luck to all u manual owners. I'm sure nissan will start doing better
Soon in fixing these problems. 1st year they let the problems build up and assess the issues.
That's y u see a lot of 2nd and 3rd year fixes with them.
But I think this is one car they will pay attention to much better than the 350z.
Back then its only comp was rx8 n mustang. Now there's like 6 or 7 competitive models.
They don't wanna lose sales I'm sure.

Man, Nissan dealerships have the WORST service ever in general. Whenever i take my maxima for any reason, they always try to screw me over by telling me they need to do all these services. I laugh in their face and explain to them how the parts function and that what they're jibbering is garbage. They usually shut up after that and go to work on the cars. Out of all the cars that i've owned, i think nissan gets my top pick for worst after service.

He said that there was NO reason i should be driving the car that fast which to me is irrelevant to why it is broken but he said that since he or any of his employees cannot drive it that fast to diagnose the problem there was not much he could do for me. I am furious, my particular car has only 3k miles on it.

Just give it a little time. It didn't take long on mine to progress to the point that a normal shift into 6th gear @ 30mph produces a nice crunch. In all sincerity, I can rev 5th gear to ~1500rpm @ 30mph, then shift into 6th gear and it grinds. The higher the speed, the worse it grinds.

It MUST have something to do with the reverse lockout feature. My 2007 Altima 3.5SE w/ 6MT lasted just find through 40,000 miles of abuse. I shifted 2nd --> 6th all the time at 60mph and never had a problem. Of course R was beside of 1st and required you to lift the shift ring at the top of the shifter to get into R.

The transmission in the Z has triple cone synchros on 1st and 2nd, and double cone synchros on 3rd and 4th. 5th and 6th (and R) are the only single cone synchros...guess that's why they wear out so easily.

Late,
Trav
