Engine dies on Auto.

Problem with our engines.
I have an auto, one day I started the car and the engine shut down after a few seconds due to low RPMs. It only happened once, but now I have noticed that sometimes when I cold start(1200)or idle(600--500) the RPM is lower than before and not stable.*
I'm a mechanic but still new in the school.*
I thought it was the dirty air filter so I washed them and the RPM is about 1400 cold start.*
Please help me figure it out.*

Over 40000 miles now. No more warranty.

Have them diagnose it and go from there.

iceman21_23 05-22-2012 11:05 PM

you got your maf sensors dirty, you didn't let your air filters dry, if you even washed them properly

so how do yo clean mass air flow sensor, unplug them then use air blower?

harman.khinda 05-22-2012 11:48 PM

go to any auto store and buy mass air flow sensor cleaner. lol.

just go to unplug + remove em, be very gentle and very careful, when handling them.

I am currently having the same issue. I couldn't find any leaks.

TreeSemdyZee 05-23-2012 12:11 AM

DO NOT blow air on the sensors. It won't clean them and could damage them if the air pressure is high. Just buy the Air flow sensor cleaner. I used car cleaner on mine, but someone said that is too harsh. Don't know if that true or not.

Thanks, I'll try clean them tomorrow.

I have HFC, and I recently Untuned my car, and this problem started occurring (but I doubt it's related to any of these reasons). I wonder if it could be a result of a weak battery...

I messaged Gongo, because he had a similar problem. Here is his thread:

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-w...ube-video.html

He stated "I don't recall exactly but first I cleaned up the throttle body assembly. I later on experienced a similar issue but it was the factory battery weak on its deathbed. It died on me after 1.5 years and i replaced it with an optima red-top."

Hope you solve the issue, and if you do, let me know.

It has happened to me recently, i opened the hood today, i took out the filters, they were clean, i opened the battery cover, and Took a look the positive battery fuse, it looked like 2 of 4 were blown. Could anyone check on that, i found the fuse online, it looked like this,
I have evrything stock, no video or audio upgrade, 7at sport, thanks

Dnt take it to a dealership, they'll bull u and will try to charge u double. Best bet is a Z special shop around your location.

Original battery isn't maintenence free, so it might need water or replacing. One of the plastic rsoonators may be cracked or a hose clamp may be loose. Run the car, while running spray carb cleaner along the intake tracts. If the idle changes you found your leak.

Failing that, an exhaust leak anywhere near the primary O2s can cause these problems as can faulty mafs.

After that it might be failed throttle bodies, which allegedly is not uncommon for this motor.

You are under warranty on drive train for 50 k so taking it to the dealership isn't necessarily a bad idea after doing own troubleshooting.
