Banging sound when shifting

Hello! I just picked up my new 2012 370 on friday. When I shift into 2nd I get a loud banging noise from under the car. I also get the same noise when I resease the clutch in reverse. I am an auto tech and have not put the car on a lift yet! I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before. Let me know, Thanks, Ken

I would take it to the dealer and see what they find thats causing it

Is it a banging or clunking? My manual Z had a clunking noise occasionally from 1st to 2nd gear

I get it too, when I asked I was told the Z just is noisy when you shift in low gears. Sounds more like a plate rattling to me.

A slight clunk from 1st to 2nd if you're not smooth is normal.

On subaru's its the rear diff hitting the trunk. The OEM bushings are very soft. I've heard this in my Z too. Since someone out there makes diff bushings and a subframe bushing, this will be the fix.

I always wondered what the heck that noise was when I shifted hard in my WRX! It happened when I took a brand-new one out on a test drive so I never worried too much about it. I figured it was normal since they did that right off the showroom floor.

Thanks for solving this 12+ year-old mystery for me!

Lol no prob. A subframe lock down kit and diff inserts fix it right up. Subaru's bushings have hollow gaps in between the rubber bushings so whiteline made nice inserts of poly that fill the gap up and fix it. Unfortunately for us I think the bushings are solid and require a PITA removal and install! :shakes head:
