Owners with a replaced grinding tranny...

...have you had any issues that came back? My tranny lately has exhibited some 5th and 6th gear grinding if I attempt to shift to those gears really rapidly. It's got me worried to some extent, but I wanna wait it out to see if it gets better. My question was that if you had your transmission replaced for the grinding under warranty, have your problems ever returned?

Mine shifts perfectly - about 2000 mi. on new gearbox.

The key word is rapidly... try shifting a little slower.

if it's still grinding, take it in and take the service adviser for a ride

What you describe is the same problem I had with my 6mt. I had 6 downshift to 5 grind. I took it to the dealership and they replaced my trany under warranty without question. great dealership i have

Grinding problem never returned, but the new tranny feels different than the origional stock one though... feels less tight when shifting between 5 and 6 back and forth IMO.

This happened while on the drag strip, to be honest. I know if I drive smoother the grinding will not occur, but I expect more out of a sports car, let alone a new one. Gotta drive it how it was meant to be driven. :driving:

That being said, I was going to swap to a Redline lubricant, but I decided against it. I'm going to drive the car with the way it is now, and if it gets much worse, I'll get the transmission warrantied. Hopefully it doesn't get worse, but who knows.

Mine was replaced at 6000 mi for 5th to 6th grind. Afterward the new trans seemed to be rough 2nd to 3rd but after some miles it smoothed out. (or I got used to it)
At 12000 mi I installed a GTM TT and I have 18000 now and so far have no issues with the trans. :knock on wood:

Crap! Here I thought it was just my shifting. It doesn't happen all the time, but downshifting from 6th to 5th had a grind a couple of times. The thing is, its never happened when I'm downshifting while slowing down. It only happens when I downshift to accellerate. I just thought my timing was off. I've had it grind going into 3rd also, but it hasn't happened lately.

I've had the exact same issues! Like I was saying, it's random, but it happens enough that makes me worry. Even though I wouldn't consider myself a driving god by any means, a transmission should be durable enough even for the masses, despite the sports car tag.

Last weekend my aftermarket clutch welded itself to the flywheel on my first run at the strip. I briefly spun the tires, staged, feather at 1.5k RPM, took off, and then realize I'm stuck in 1st. Finally got out, had trouble in 2nd, grinded getting into 3rd a few times, but coasted after getting in gear. For the past several months I've been having gearshift issues which stems from the clutch disk dragging with the flywheel.

Anyhow, I now have a ceramic disk, new master cylinder and ZSpeed CSC (to be safe). After bleeding all the air out, the driving feel is amazing. Shift effort is light, not notchy, etc.

But then I started grinding 3rd. I was grinding 3rd after picking up the car the night before, but I thought it was because of air in the clutch lines. What's interesting is the throw into 3rd felt a bit shorter. The tech noticed this as well. When driving home and testing I notice 3rd only grinds when revs are above 3k RPM regardless of load.

This morning when I drove to work 3rd didn't grind at all, it wasn't notchy, and throws felt normal. Then once I was approaching my workplace (after 15 min worth of freeway driving) it grinded once when I revved past 3k.

Praying it's only an adjustment issue at the moment.
