traction control
Sometimes when I shift at low rpms the vhc kicks on and the car bogs really bad. Obviously this can be fixed by shifting at higher rpms but I was just wondering if this happens to other people and why.
Thanks. |
how low rpms are you talking? I've never seen my vdc on unless I've done something purposely.
|
like 1500-2000 maybe a little lower. I didn't gun it or anything so I am confused when the vdc kicks on. It has happened a few times in 2nd and 3rd gear.
|
slick road conditions? I've never seen mine come on that low unless i either did something to cause it or it was cold on smooth pavement. I might also add that at that low of an rpm I have yet to have an issue with 3rd gear spinning except when I'm at the drag strip (but then my rpms aren't that low either).
|
dry conditions and I'm not gunning it at all. I don't think there is anyway the wheels are slipping. I've had the Z for about 3 weeks. It has happened 4 or 5 times. Weird I figured this would have happened to other people.
|
perhaps ur releasing the clutch too quickly so the clutch isn't grabbing, and thereby causing spin as if you kicked the clutch.
|
car feels like crap at 1500-2000rpm. live a little
|
If it is a smooth gear shift then it is not normal but if it is really jerky then it's normal.

Your not letting the clutch out properly. |
^me?

imo, OP isn't shifting properly. No offense.

Agreed -sounds like bad technique....and trust me, I am an expert on bad technique - with nearly everything. ;)

1. You need to learn how to drive stick. 2. You are on uneven ground/gravel/etc that is causing VDC to activate. 3. Your car is broken and needs to be fixed. I highly doubt your problem is number 1 if you are not having these problems shifting at higher RPM's. Unless you mean you are shifting at 1500 RPM's, then yes, you are bogging the engine. Get your RPM's up. No idea why that would activate VDC though. Number 2 is easy enough to test and if the problem, easy to rememdy by chosing a different route. So my money is on numer 3, in which case, learn how to replicate the problem with consistency and take it to a dealer. Quote:
Also, I am using the term bogging to mean the engine is basically incapable of making the vehicle accelerate with the gas pedal on the floor. |
So I'm out driving around going home from work (at a red light atm) trying to replicate your problem and for the life of me I am gettin nothing. Tried with synchro-rev on and then off using piss poor shifting and I get neither VDF kicking in nor the bogging problems. I am shifting sub-1500 and sitting on the 1k mark upon completing my shift.
I think it's your car... |
Just gonna chime in here, my VDC kicks on all the damn time. Not so much with non aggressive driving, but just on a test launch I'll be stuck goign no where with engine revving high, VDC light blinking and clutch almost all the way out.
Am I letting it out too fast? |
Remember that your VDC CAN ACTIVATE if your clutch engagement will cause your rear wheels to lock! We always think of traction control as being something that cuts power when your wheels are spinning, but you can cause instability just as easily by engaging the clutch with the engine too low, because it can make the rear wheels lock up or slow. The Corvette has a seperate feature name for the part of the traction control system that will react to the rears locking up from too little engine power too, and I know from experience the VDC will react to this problem too. Perhaps that's what you're dealing with? I could imagine the engine might be more prone to make that happen at lower RPMs when there's not as much momentum going on... Just a thought.

It's hard to say what is causing OP's problem. It sounds to me like bad clutch engagement.

although i can demonstrate the problem 90% of the time by turning left or right from a stop light with gentle gas between the 1 to 2 shift. I put this one down to the way a diff works when turning a corner - one wheel will always spin slightly slower. |
Traction control is enemy. Target aquired. Destroy.
