G37x to 370z engine swap?
Hey guys I have an engine from a 2009 g37x and want to put it in a 370z is this possible from going from the AWD in the g37x to the rear wheel drive in the 370?
Thanks! |
The engine is the same. I believe the awd comes from Drivetrain.
|
you would be a flames fan......
DAN |
But if you could put the 37x drivetrain in the Z you would be certified as a bad a$$
|
I agree but that would require cutting and other heavy modifications to a relatively new car. Now if you don't care about the value of your car because you are uber-rich then it would be awesome. Still the Z is best enjoyed as rwd and clearly built to excel as such, why would you go with a more fragile awd drivetrain?
|
Just leave it as it is, or if you're an AWD kind of guy just trade it with some decent Evo and build it.
|
Turbo Magazine has a feature up this month on a s14 running awd and an RB26. Now that's hot!
|
I think all of you guys misread what the OP was saying. He was asking whether there will be a problem putting the g37X engine, which is a car with AWD, into the 370z, which is a RWD. He never said he wanted to make the 370z AWD.
The answer to the OP is yes. The engine is the same and should be compatible with 370z's rwd drive train. |
Then the question is why? Unless he blew the engine the the 370. There's nothing to gain.

-salvage repair -hydrolock -blown engine -sending an engine block to be built |
OP needs to chime in and give some more details on the project.
|
Anything is possible, but will it be cheap or easy? No way!
|
Hey thanks for the info and comments! modme thats exactly my 370z has a blown engine and my dad has a 2009 g37x motor with 10,000km on it. It is mine for free if I want it, the idea would be to keep it rear wheel if it is possible the drive train on the 370z will be compatible with g37's engine sorry for the poor details.... if possible I can save a big chunk off money instead off buying a new 370 engine!
|
How'd you blow your engine?

The g37 engine is sitting in my garage, whats the point if it is the exact same engine as the 370 as long as it hooks up to the rear wheel drive train in the 370 thats why I need some info on this swap before we begin..... it only makes sense to use a "free" spare engine! unless it will not work. Thanks for your help:icon18:

OP how'd u blow up the z ?
|
Scratch that. Thinking of the maxima

If I had that much money I'd just go buy an old skyline and hide it from the Feds.

lol
I thought I was going to read about someone making a 370Zx. Why not just sell the G37x and then rebuild your Z? GTM sells built blocks if you don't have the means to make it happen on your own. Something just doesn't sound right here...... |

not 100% sure if year from year need different things like the 350z's did (cam sensors) so you might want to make sure it is from the same year. |
The 350z had different cam sensors due to a change in the engine. The 2005+ 6mt engine was changed to the revup type. Back in the VQ35DEs, the 6mt and autos had different engines.
As far as I know, there hasnt been any change to the VQ37VHR motor. The autos and manuals have used the same engine since it was released in 2008. |
The RWD and AWD engines are NOT identical.
The entire upper and lower oil pan assembly is completely different for starters. |
How did you blow the engine?:eek2:

Whats the point of having a G37x with no engine? While it is technically possible to do the better and cheaper and much less time consuming and problematic option is to sell the G37. And if its sitting in a garage just doing nothing then its only losing money with or without an engine. Then get what ever engine you want that was made to fit the 370. |
Did he say he has the G37? I thought he said he has the engine. Having the engine doesn't mean you have the car.
