auto slipping between gears?

Over the past week or so I have noticed a few instances where, when the car is cold, I'll experience a "missed gear" in the 7AT while accelerating at a normal pace. What I mean is that when the car goes to shift 3-4, the RPMs jump up about 1K like I blipped the throttle between gears. This is definitely abnormal. Haven't experienced it until recently. Has anyone else seen this and, if so, any ideas why it is happening?

It's normal. It's called flare up, search the g37 forums. It supposedly happens if you drive a short distance then drive the car again in a hour.

Not normal in 370z's.

That happened to my tranny even before I was FI. Now my 3rd and 4th gear are toast.

I noticed it a few times. Also one time I accelerated and the car just revved up like it was not in gear.

Do you guys think it's more related to the SRS or the clutch itself?

Hi there, I have a question, it's kinda related I tried and looked it up, but didn't find anything about it, I just picked my new 2012 z a week ago (it's my first one) I've noticed when I put the car in 1st gear and rev it up, as I push the clutch and depress the gas there's a thud sound and the shift knob moves quite good, some times when the gas isn't fully depressed and I start pushing the clutch to go onto second, feels like the gb wants to spit first gear, and all it takes is a little pressure with the tip of my fingers to get off first onto neutral.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal? I mean that sound is disturbing, especially when you push the clutch really fast. Should I take it to the dealer?

The clunking clutch and any "cement mixer" sounds you might hear from your clutch/drivetrain are normal for Z's. If you do a search for it you'll see everyone experiences it.

I'm not quite sure I understand the rest of your post. When engaging the clutch in first gear your shifter vibrates violently? I think that's what you're saying. This is what happens if you're not giving it enough gas. The shifter is mounted directly on the transmission so vibrations are transmitted to the shifter itself and that's why it vibrates.

Sounds like $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Try and get it on tape. Is the car still under warranty?

Bullet_proof 03-01-2012 07:01 PM

Prob I made it sound worst than what actually is, is just from 1st to 2nd gear, it's clunky, and some times feels like wants to "spit out" 1st gear by itself when above 3500 rpm. But from what I've read that's kind if a common occurrence with this trannys. I'm just not used to it, and I've always had manual transmission cars.

Thanks for your help, yes the car is still under warranty (250 miles)
