changing out my 6 speed to an auto?

How much $$$ do you guys think it would be to change the Z from a 6 speed manual to a 7 speed automatic? Too much trouble? Too much Money? Or should I just sell it? Im thinking computer, wiring, tranny...
Thanks in advance. Do not want to start a dispute on which one is better. Its for a good cause.

too much hassle, too much trouble and too much money. besides you have to figure out how to install the paddle shifter. and why bother in the first place? you possessed the first manual with synchrorev system in the world. just leave it as is imo

Trade in your car for an auto if you want one, otherwise it wouldnt be worth the money...

as for the paddle shifter, i would bet the wire harness is in place and the paddles will bolt right up. Not all of the G37 sedan autos come with paddle shifters but they can be installed without even removing the steering wheel.

But, for the money, you might as well trade for an auto.

It's doable but You'd have to find a wrecked Auto to strip it clean of what is needed. Thats one way to save some $$ if you're mechanically inclined.

I would recommend looking for a member or person that would want to trade? that way you're minimizing the cost

Cmike2780 02-18-2012 09:26 AM

this is just silly. OP, are you that terrible driving stick?

:iagree: That's the only way you wont spend crazy amount of $$.

Why do you want an auto?

Well he said its for a good cause... So yea if you aren't gonna say anything to help him don't say anything at all.

OP, Triple's recommendation would be the most cost effective. Off the top of my head I would say you need ECM ,steering shaft ,tranny, wirering, possibly driveshaft and diff , also peddal assembly. Then there's all the associated labor costs. Hope this helps , good luck.

Whats the reason for wanting to make such a change?

urvokbm 02-18-2012 10:11 AM

Sell your Z, buy one with 7AT. It's just so much easier and less time consuming

Perhaps he was involved in an industrial accident and had his clutch leg amputated as a result?

In any case, follow Triple's suggestions.
