rear mounted Oil cooler

I was thinking about installing an engine oil cooler near the back of the Z with an electric fan installed. Maybe up above the exhaust or just in front of the exhaust.

I am not sure how well it would work in those two locations, but I have not done alot of research on things like that for this car. Maybe some of the guys who track the car can chime in. I would like to know myself since you asked.

What purpose do you see in this? Do you know how long of oil lines you'd have to run? :shakes head: Would your run a dif cooler in the front of a car? No. I would quickly delete this thread. Just say'n.

the distance from the oil filter to the front of the radiator and the distance from the oil filter to the bottom of the trunk area may only be 1 to 3 feet different. I'm thinking 2 more feet of oil hoses wouldnt cause that much of a problem.

It also might eliminate the need for an oil cooler block off plate in cooler temps. (like one of these... http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...off-plate.html)

Try thinking outside of the box.

IMO if you're going to go to the trouble of custom mounting an oil cooler I'd say ditch the air to oil cooler and get a water to oil cooler. No block off plate needed and oil temps would come up to operating temp quicker after cold start.

Nope.

I'm thinking more so of an extra five feet per feed and return line. That would be nearly a quart of oil most likely more just to feed the lines. Not to mention that's way to much strain on the oil pump causing lower oil pressure. Matter of fact the oil pump probably can't handle that. That's just basic logic.

Some nice debris on the road would total your engine pretty quickly too. The idea is as bad as it sounds
