Nitrous Install

I have a mechanic installing a ZEX nitrous kit on my 370z. He had a few questions about the install...

1. Do how do you mount the nozzles on the intake tubes. I have Injen long tube intakes and the tube wall is pretty thin on them, if you have mounted this yourself, let me know how and how solid it has been for you.

2. If I wanted to do the 100 shot, In your opinion/Experience, Do I need to change the timing.

Thank you, I posted these questions on another thread but had no answers come back, so I started a new one.

I'd be a little nervous if my mechanic was asking these questions. I think most people have a professional mechanic do certain installs because they want to rely on the mechanic's experience. Just something to consider.

you might want to consult the manufacturer, that way if something happens you should be covered.

He works on some pretty nice cars at the mercedes dealership, but has never done a nitrous install. He said it is easy enough, he justed wanted to make sure the spray nozzles are very solidly mounted. and wanted to know what guys were doing for timing with a hundred shot thats all. (In your experience) also, if anyone has a pic of their intake, thatd be great.

In before the blown engine. :ughdance:

Please be smart and save yourself the 10K on a new motor by either: (1) taking the car to a person with relevant experience or (2) avoiding the nitrous kit altogether. :ugh2:

I'm doing my own nitrous install and honestly if your mechanic who works on high end cars cannot read the manual or figure out nozzle placement you better run.. It's really that simple ... GOOD LUCK !!!!!

Why avoid the nitrous kit ???

Do a search on nitrous install and u will see my pics ...

ocean.mirage 02-08-2012 01:43 PM

We looked at the instructions, and just figured that the way the nozzles were mounted seemed a little flimsy.

erkthejerk73 02-08-2012 01:53 PM

can you post pics?

cc370z 02-08-2012 02:19 PM

I don't know why people on this forum are so against nitrous. I've ran nitrous on many of my past cars with no issues. If you take the correct safety precautions theirs is no reason why nitrous isn't a safe and reliable power adder. But you need a competent installer. (not saying yours is not)

NeverBoneStck install is looking very good and super clean. I would follow his build and make changes that fit your needs.

this thread has BOOM written all over it...

I'm not a big believer in the bottle personally. It's only really applicable to the drag strip and street races. Notwithstanding, I have followed your build and it's fantastic. :tiphat: You clearly know what you are doing and I am sure it will be great to see the results. However, the OP doesn't seem to have the same knowledge and throwing a hundred shot on his car without proper tuning (i.e. it requires more than a timing change) or a mechanic with relevant experience is likely going to wind up a disaster. The fact that the OP doesn't seem to realize this yet is the reason I say avoid it altogether.

semtex 02-08-2012 06:32 PM

OP, where in Canada are you?

JC671 02-08-2012 06:33 PM

OP, nitrous is not something that you want a mechanic to try for his first time. Mecerdes is not a Z. A Z is not a Mercedes etc etc. Nitrous is beyond his level of compentency.

Find a guy who has gone through nitrous and go through with it. Run the 75 shot if your scared of tuning. With 75 shot no needing tuning is really needed. I'm not saying that it shouldn't be done though.

I would definitely find another mechanic. It sounds like your going to run a single fogger on each intake. If you can, running a direct port system is the best and safest route, but single fogger systems are fine. The placement on the intake is key because each cylinder needs to have an equal amount of air, fuel(if you're running a wet system), and nos by the time it gets there. In the past I've placed mine around a 1-1.5 foot away from the throttle body along the intake.

The most important part is the testing phase. When the install is complete, do a semi hard pull and check your spark plugs. Make sure they're all evenly covered in soot. If not, check the jets/foggers and make sure they're aimed directly down the middle of the tube or try placing them some somewhere else. Clean the spark plugs and test again until the nos is being distributed evenly.

BTW - I would only go as high as 75-80 shots.

1st. Like everyone is saying, get someone else to do it...installing a nitrous kit is pretty easy to do and if a "mechanic" is asking how to do it, you got issues.

2nd. Mounting the nozzles is pretty simple. The zex kit should come with a tapering bit to drill the hole. You can either A. mount the nozzles directly in the pipe, or B. mount them in a jam nut that will mount in the pipes.

Here was my setup...not the cleanest but it worked perfectly. The NMU is right below the (as your looking at it in the pic) left intake by the throttle body.

Nice! On my last setup I mounted the foggers underneath and bought black hose covers, ninja style!
