2010 Stub Axles different? Just threaded difference?

I was looking at a 2010 370Z rear end and I noticed that the stub axles look to have the same shape, size, and number of bolt holes as the older ones. The difference I noticed though is that they are threaded so instead of using bolts and nuts to attached the axles now all you have to do is just use bolts and the threads are in the stub axles. What I'm curious of is will it fit in older 370's and 350's still if you have the correct bolts to use?

Thanks!

Ted

Yea I saw this also being I came from a 350 to a 370. When installing my LSD this was pointed out to me being I was installing a LSD I had to order another axle stub to make it work on my base model. I found out that day that Nissan's uses different length and shaped stub axles in the various trims of 350 and 370 (being 370 base models have traction control on a open diff). So being we ordered another stub from most likely a 350 (not sure of this). But that stub that was ordered didn't have the threads in it. So on my car one side has ''nuts and bolts''.

Not sure of the bolt sized used (being basic bolt vs threaded) but they fit perfectly into the CV axles holes. It was also recommended that I might want to drill out the other side axle stub threads and put solid bolts in there for if I was going to be tracking (whichI do) the solid bolts are stronger and just the point of having axle stub with threads in them if they would hold up over time when tracking.

Hey there, you were a different situation somewhat for you did the OS Giken LSD right? You had to use like two drivers side axle stubs or something like that?

SPOHN 01-14-2012 08:38 AM

Not sure what side but it was two SHORT stub axles NON TAPER with snap ring grooves/snap rings.

350Z/370Z axle flanges ARE different

4 Attachment(s)
Yes, the 350Z uses different diff flanges than the 370Z. The 350Z uses bolts, washers and nuts to fasten the diff stubs to the axles, where the 370Z just uses bolts that thread into the flange assy OR axle joint assy with RED loctite. Interesting that the bolt head flips from the diff side to the tire side starting on the 2011s. The 350Z (Z33) always keeps the bolt head to the tire side and nuts on the diff side.
If you're changing out final drives, I created a post back on 5 JUN 2010 listing different final drive ring and pinions from the Frontier that bolt into the 350Z/370Z R200V.

350Z
Open and VLSD differential axle joint assy inner both sides: 39711-AR402
Open differential flange assy both sides: 38220-AR000
VLSD differenital flange assy left side: 38220-AR011*
VLSD differenital flange assy right side: 38220-AR010
flange assy bolt x12: 39606-22P0A
flange assy washer x12: 08915-2401A
flange assy nut x12: 39607-03P0A

370Z
'09-'10 Open and VLSD differential axle joint assy inner both sides (thread): 39711-EG00A
'11-'13 Open and VLSD differential axle joint assy inner both sides (no thread?): 39711-1BP0A
'09-'10 Open differential flange assy both sides (no thread):38220-EG000
'11-'13 Open differential flange assy both sides (thread?): 38220-1NC0A
'09-'13 VLSD differenital flange assy left side (no thread): 38220-JK01B* <--FAST superceeds this -'10 part number to the '11+
'09-'13 VLSD differenital flange assy right side (no thread): 38220-JK01A <--FAST superceeds this -'10 part number to the '11+
flange assy bolt x12: 39606-17V0B

The 370Z axle flange assy bolt dimensions are: M10x1.25x~26, 14mm wrench, non threaded part of shank = ~8mm.

ARP hardware to replace 39606-17V0B:
M10x1.25x30 = ARP 663-1003 x3 hex bolts
M10x1.25 (nut height ~10mm) = ARP 300-8364 & 300-8354 12pt nuts

*=The O.S. GIKEN LSD and possibly other mechanical LSDs use two of these "stubs" due to the shorter length w/the C-clip.

Hey guys,

Sorry for bumping this thread, but are there any axle upgrades for our cars? I've only seen this but it's way too expensive and I'm not looking for more than 500-600whp

L33T Z34 08-05-2013 12:52 PM

Bump
I'm currently "test fitting" ARP 8740 chrome moly bolts, nuts and washers on my 370Z axle flanges. I don't like the fact that Nissan just used red loctite on their bolts @ 59 ft lb. The service manual says to replace the bolts when you remove them, due to the RED loctite and probably being rusted. Since I removed my rear diff multiple times, I think going w/ARP bolts, nuts and washers is a good idea.

Great idea. If you have time can you get me the part number for those bolts?

Yes Spohn, I'll edit post 5 when I find the BEST length bolt and nut height that ARP has to offer currently.

reviving an old thread...

Just curious, why is it necessary to have different shaped stub axles in order to work with 370z that has traction control... just out of curiosity.

?

Traction control has nothing to do with it. All 370Z have traction control (aka Vehicle Dynamic Control or VDC) The difference is the internal parts in the rear differential housing. The Sports and Nismo models have a Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD) which is physically different from the open differential in the base model which is why there are different size stub axles.

JARblue 12-23-2019 09:25 AM

To me, it sounds like SPOHN is maybe referring to the difference in traction control between a 350 and 370?
