Quick review of NST Pullies for 370Z with dyno
Went to Specialty Z today and had Seb install the NST pulley set. Was interested to see if pullies made a difference at all. The NST thread had dynos, but for a 350Z.
Bought the NST pulley set for a very good price through a vendor WESELLCARPARTS, and pullies were shipped directly by NST in Texas. I was ticked that the pullies came scratched up and the crank pulley even had a small chip. Talked to Seb@SZ and Mike@NST, and both said it will not affect the Z. So whatever, I went through with the install. http://www.the370z.com/members/370z-...er-install.jpg There was a blip at 6.5K RPM which gave a false reading of TRQ, so please disregard the Peak Torque number (blue line). Solid gains were made from 4.2K RPM, all the way to redline. AVG gains were about 6 whp/6wtq. At 6.2K RPM, and 7.1K RPM, gains were about 10whp/10wtq. Peak gain of +6 WHP and about +1 WTRQ. Car seems to rev up easier. Besides that, can't really feel the small bump in power. I will see if my MPG imroves at all. All in all, for the money spent ($400 installed), not too bad. |
I'd be pissed if it was scratched up and chipped too

Here are some NST VS OEM Nissan Weight comparisons to consider.

Did you notice that your serpentine belt was loose after the pulley install? My belt tensioner is fully relaxed and I seem to have about 1/2" flex in the belt. I don't want to start the car as I have the exhaust off awaiting new CBE. I know that NST offers a belt, but I saw no indication that a shorter belt was a necesity.

i bought the shorter Gates belt just in case. Im not using the OEM belt.

Today I picked up the shorter Gates belt to go with the NST Pulley installation.
I used a 3/8" drive breaker bar and fit a deep well socket over the handle then add a long extension to give more leverage when releasing the tension. Once I get it pulled over center, I add another extention that I wedged against the floor to hold it in the released position. http://www.the370z.com/attachments/m...l-img_0019.jpg Now that the tension on the belt is relieved and my hands are both free, I then remove the coolant catch container under the hood so that I have complete access to the belt to remove. http://www.the370z.com/attachments/m...l-img_0020.jpg Using the chart shown in a thread above, I routed in the new belt and released the tensioner. With the shorter belt, the tensioner is now putting correct tension on the belt. http://www.the370z.com/attachments/m...l-img_0020.jpg Next I reinstalled the coolant catch canister, connected the battery and relearned the power windows. Now I wait for my CBE, install it and listen to the music play through the pipes and let my butt dyno feel the fruits of my labors.:driving: |
