Base 370z Differential Question
I cant find any where what type of differential is on the base 370z. I see with the sport package only you get the Viscous LSD but i cant find whats on the base model... If i recall the base 03 350z was a one wheel wonder... and hoping thats not the case on the 370z... any info would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks in advance...

I'm afraid it's most likely an open diff.
|
correct me if im wrong but i believe an open diff. still turns both rear wheels but it constantly supplies the same power Vs. LSD that transfers the power to the wheel with better traction. right ??
I can live with that, just the thaught of one wheel drive with a sports car makes me uneasy. |
An open differential transfers power equally if there is equal traction, however that is seldom the case and you'll easily get a one wheel peel exiting a corner.
The viscous LSD in the sport isn't great but it's better than an open diff. |
Open diff = Peg legging mostly.. Just get a sport package, my man.
|
what makes one lsd better than others? how much torque it's able to transfer from side to side? please explain. Thanks.

I most likely will get the sport package, i was mainly wondering for overall knowledge of the Z... It blew my mind in 03 that they were sending 283? HP to one wheel... if you would like to help out financially i can give u my paypal address... :) |

The viscous style uses slotted plates spaced close together so that the movement of one axle will accelerate the other (at a reduced rate), but as the oil heats up the torque transfer is reduced more and more. And as there is no torque sensing, the wheel receiving the majority of the power isn't necessarily the one with traction. |
Its a short nose R200 diff that is very common in Nissans, the Z31,Z32,Z33,S13, S14,S15 and now the 370Z-Z34 use it, most manufactures of LSD diffs make a diff that fits the 370Z.
|
so is the r200 a one wheel wonder?
|
according to the article below and the picture it has i must assume it 2wheel drive....

The diff is fine, it is the LSD core that is weak.
|
Is it possible to upgrade from base open diff to a LSD better than the one installed on the sports pkg? Or is not worth the cost to upgrade em?
|
It should be possible. Quality LSD cores are a little pricey, around $1500 plus a couple hundred more in labor.
|
i was thinking of changing the diff oil... any suggestions on which one to use?
