It was shipped to Houston, and then I flew over there and drove it home... interesting 10 hours haha. It got notchy at times, but I was able to drive home without any down time. The drivetrain noise was not an issue at all. I only heard it at low speeds, and that's it.

Keep us informed :)

Update: Shop is owning up to it. Right when i walked in the front door the guy at the front said "I just heard." So they know they messed up.

Here was his excuse on why it happened...

Just after everything was installed the car went on the dyno. They are blaming the failure of the rear diff on an improper break-in. They said the car needs to have (3) 10 - 12 mile cycles of warming up the diff and cooling down.

To me it sounds like BS... so who knows.

All i know is they are going to fix it and come out of pocket for new seals, bearing and anything else needed to do it right. My only concerns is if there was a mistake in the installation... what's to say it's not going to happen again? I know i can just take the car back for a third time, but they've already had it since Wednesday of last week when there was only supposed to be 12 hours of labor to be done.

So frustrated...

if it makes you feel any better, you are going to love how the car accelerates when you get it back with the 4.08's

Never was a fan of lightened flywheels... had one in my old 4 banger (installed myself in my driveway with no issue btw so a pro schouldn't have any of those issues) and as the other person said, you simply give up too much on the low end and I never noticed any benefit other than faster revs. You almost have to launch the car to get it rolling normally (again it was a 4 banger with almost 1/3 the HP but still).

Good luck with your fix, I know that is frustrating as hell especially with your (probably correct) notion that they are going to do the bare minimum to get this fixed.

Pm me who it was if you don't mind. I think I know who it is too, ive been waiting to get my gears and LSD installed, but waited because I wasn't sure if the installer was competent. Sorry for your troubles man, that sucks.

helow...
I know Im coming in late on this one... it sounds like when the transmission was pulled to do the JWT flywheel, the trans fluid was drained and never filled up again... hence noise and burning smell... rear differential is not going to make noise when not moving... ive done about 50 JWT installs and have never had this problem except when i was fixing when someone "did it themselves" and then it made noise like yours, trans was low about 3 qts...
