370z leaking engine fluid?

I noticed on the left and right side underneath my engine where my car sits in my garage their are these fluids/plastic drips on my floor. They are hard now cuz they are dry, wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing.

Not what i wanna hear =[ Glad i got the 100,000 bumper 2 bumper warranty =]

gurneyeagle 08-28-2011 07:04 PM

Well, don't get worked-up yet. There are plenty of very sharp, mechanically-inclined guys that can provide much more valuable insight.

red6spd 08-28-2011 07:11 PM

Wtf???????

Footloose301 08-28-2011 07:19 PM

Looks like melted plastic. Maybe something is touching the exhaust?

nutoz 08-28-2011 07:19 PM

:confused:could it possibly be coating from the chassie or some kind of excess sealant that dripped from the hot engine

JrumMusic 08-28-2011 07:19 PM

I might have to take it to the dealer 2mrw.

Boost_lee 08-28-2011 08:15 PM

Have you looked under the car yet or inspected the undertray?

No i dont have any equipment that could lift my car.

11Thumper 08-29-2011 02:33 AM

Do you smell anything while/after driving the car? If you were burning plastic you would know it.

DjSquall 08-29-2011 08:16 AM

That's scary....

No smells my friend, sometimes my ac will smell dull lol for a minute when i 1st put it on, but thats it.

JrumMusic 08-30-2011 12:18 AM

So nothing guys ???? =[

ChipsWithDips 08-30-2011 12:22 AM

Definately looks like melted plastic to me. No other "fluid" from your car would harden when cool. No telling which exact piece of plastic it's from until you put it on a lift, or jackstands and look around for what has melted.

Edit: oh and if you're looking around under there while the engine is warm, wear some googles. :ughdance:

Methodical4u 08-30-2011 12:23 AM

well it's not oil obviously... like the others said, it looks like plastic. What do the drips smell like?

wstar 08-30-2011 01:14 AM

Definitely melted plastic. I had this problem a couple months ago with a plastic grocery bag that got hung up underneath the car and melted against the exhaust pipes. You might not notice the smell from in the cabin, or even outside if most of the plastic is already melted, and is just reheating and dripping off.

Yea, your right no other other fluid would harden like that afterwards, thanks for the safety tips =]

Im will take another look, that horrible, there is no foul smell though... So maybe its something else, hopefully nothing major

red6spd 08-30-2011 11:26 AM

If he had a bag he would have a bad smell. Right before I was suppose to go to Atco raceway with a few friends I started to get his burning plastic smell coming from the Z. I was so worried it was something that was going to stop me from hitting the track. I searched and searched could not find anything. Untill one day I smelled it really bad after getting on her a little, I pulled over and got under the car and saw a melted plastic bag my FI exhaust. I was pissed and happy at the same time LOL

cheshirecat 08-30-2011 11:33 AM

Almost looks like some kind of silicone sealant.

Yeah that's my thought. Looks like the high-temp rtv.

Red__Zed 08-30-2011 11:47 AM

Where under the car is it leaking?

11Thumper 08-30-2011 01:03 PM

Take a good look in the engine bay and under the car as well. Make sure you do this when the car is completely cool. Use a flashlight and look for more of this goop, or debris that is stuck in there. Did this just happen one day or does it continue to happen? You say it is hard now, but did you ever see it when it was soft?

Imagine where the intakes are, underneath the car of course, that is where the leaks were on the floor, left and right. I looked again this morning, i cant seem to find anything, no smells, no engine lights no nothing. hm...

No idea when it happend, its not ALOT of it on the floor, but it enough to notice something aint right. Ive never seen it fresh and gooey.

spearfish25 08-30-2011 04:40 PM

There is no way anything slightly dripping from the engine will be visible on the ground from the front bumper all the way back to about the front edge of the doors. The under tray covers that whole area. The only way to get a fluid leak in that area is to have a big one (lots of oil or coolant) that actually fills the tray and then seeps through the holes in it.

Either your under tray or something in the wheel well is melting, something is dripping from further back than the intake area, or you have a ton of that melted crap caught by the under tray and only a bit got through to the ground.

You can certainly melt the dust boots around the brake caliper pistons, but they usually vaporize rather than drip.

11Thumper 08-30-2011 05:06 PM

Are you sure this wasn't some type of plastic flash material that just dropped to the floor? Perhaps you ran over something on the road and this was just leftover debris? If you never saw this in a wet/soft state then I would question the origin. Are you sure it couldn't be from something else in the garage?

Do you have kids? ;)

Ok this actually makes some sense in a way. My brakes have felt "PULLY" if that makes any sense, like jerky. But I run my AC ALOT! and everytime i park a huge puddle of coolant or discharge leaks from underneath my car. I mean ALOT lol!

My name isn't Jose ;)

Not sure about your brake pulling issue. That could be several things. How many miles on this car? Are you mechanically inclined? If so, remove the engine splash guard from the car and clean it good. Look for anything on there or anything unusual around the engine bay. Place the engine cover back on the car, sweep the garage floor really well and tell your lady to park at the curb and hike it up to the house. :D

So you're 22 and your lady is cute enough that you let her park in your spot? It's picture time!!!

The water under your car when you run the AC is condensation running off. Basically it's atmospheric moisture that your AC components have drawn out of the air and dripped off onto the ground. It will mostly come from somewhere near the front of the passenger door on the underside of the car.

Coolant leaks are bad, hopefully you don't have one of those. I tend to use the taste test when I'm unsure: dip your finger in what you think is just AC condensation and taste it. If it tastes like water you're ok. If it tastes like coolant you're in trouble :)

I'm willing to bet that it was tar or something of that nature... as someone mentioned there is almost no way that the car would be leaking unless the splash guard was removed or it was an EXTREMELY large amount of fluid (enough to render the car a 30 thousand dollar paperweight).

You kicked up something on the splashguard and it dripped off on the ground when you parked. The only other thing would be if it was past the engine, like a bag on the exhaust as was also mentioned. I'd keep my eye on things like the oil level but I wouldn't really worry too much. Only other fluid that would look like that color would probably be the dif fluid which is WAY behind the engine.

The roads where i live have been getting brand new pavement, maybe the new road rock chips got stuck under my car, heated and leaked off? As i recall i drive on that road EVERY day i drive, so thats a good cause for the problem.
