Weird engine noise after I came home
I pulled into the garage and heard the engine making this sound. I don't believe I've heard it before.
I turned the engine off and back on, and the noise went away. It's a womp womp womp womp womp kind of sound. Noise from a pump? http://www.flickr.com/photos/alastai...in/photostream |
I have the same sound. Seems to have started after I got my Berks installed. My tuner picked up my Z last night to install an LSD and a btw I told him about it. He'll be looking into it and as soon as I know, I'll post the answer.

Thanks!

Here's a clip after I turned the engine off and back on. The sound isn't there.
VIDEO0031 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Also, when I drove to work today I didn't hear it. I wonder if there's a relation to heat. It was about 85ish degrees when I drove home and about 60 when I drove to work. |
Here's a followup on the pumping noise that some of us have heard. I've been hearing it for the past several weeks, especially after the motor has been running for a while. Coincidently I was getting a cel and thinking about some of the posts here, I thought it might be related to the hfcs' I had installed about two months ago.I hooked up the code reader and I got banks one and two running lean. I thought that it must be the infamous cel related to the hfcs that some folks reported getting about two months after the install. I ended up driving the poor tuner crazy. He checked out the exhaust system and the O2 sensors and all were fine. Hed tested the car and got no cels'.
The next day I took her out and got the cel over and over. So I called him, we talked and then he suggested checking the hoses up top. So I l;ooked arround under the hood and found that the air ram on the right throttlebody had slipped out of the rubber collar (some how the hose clamp sliiped off of the collar) and was just sorta hanging on half off, half on. I reconnected it, tightened the clamp, very well, and started her up. Purred like a kitten, idle was silky smooth again, no cels and no more pumping sound. It was an air leak, the thottlebody was sucking unmonitered air! Any way do check for an air leak. |
DrEvil, if you search for the VVEL Bank 2 knocking noise, you'll get the same sound. Nissan's fix is an ECU update and ester oil. They'll fill it with ester for free the first time.
Some said this has fixed it, others say it comes back. Nissan has said that this will not effect the longevity of the engine. |
