A/C problem

So Im driving yesterday in 95 degree weather and my a/c starts going in and out. It seemed like when I accelerated it would lose all coldness and start blowing hot air. If I came to a stop it would get cold again (not every time). Sometimes if I turned the ac off by pushing the ac button and still having air blow, then turn it back on, it would blow cold air again.

One thing i noticed is that when it stopped blowing cold, it would release a distinct smell. Definitely not a burning smell. Hard to explain, but I didn't recognize the scent. I've read about vents smelling moldy, but it only emitted the smell when the a/c lost coldness.

I'm not a heavy a/c user, mostly windows down, so only on really hot days. Anybody else have this problem?

Did you accelerate hard? Some cars cut out the AC when you ask the motor for alot of power.

No, just normal acceleration. Maybe 4000rpm shifts tops.

The decompressor thrust bearing failed.

What's really going on is your blower motor is overheating and shutting off on thermal overload. The smell you're getting is the lacquer melting on the motor windings. It needs replacement. Have your dealer take a look, it's under warranty.
