what engine mods do people do?
So i just got an 09 370 about 2 days ago and it already has an engine intake and catless midpipe. But other than an exhaust and intake i cant really seem to find many other mods for these motors. What else is out there to do to these amazing VQ's other than e/i/t to get extra hp???
I mean there has to be more right...? tell me what you guys got goin on under those hoods and the results u are seeing from them |

I suggest you browse the site a bit. There's no possible post that will answer you question appropriately. Enjoy your car.

Most people put on Stillen Gen 3 intake pipes,a good cat back exhaust, and maybe some High flow cats(for some).

headers

I forgot to add Mudflaps:bowrofl:

cat back HFC or test pipes tune pulley headers forced induction the VHR is no different than any other engine with the exception of VVEL (no cams for this head), browse the forums to get an idea of what people are doing specifically. |
intake, cats, and exhaust, with a tune to cap it off it about all that makes sense to do if you are staying NA. If you are looking for more pep beyond that, it is probably worth looking at gears.

i guess i'm just a little surprised by tha lack of trick intake manifolds, throttle bodies, and things of that nature for these motors. i mean i have an Injen intake, and i feel like after i get the exhaust done and if i dont like a voiding the warranty with a tune... then what...?

Save your $ and go big with a supercharger. Much better bang for your buck I'd say
|
might be a dumb question, but do lightweight crank pullies void any sort of warranty?

IMO a tune shouldn't hurt either if the tuner knows what's he's doing. I feel my tune is more efficient than a OEM tune.

Ya i feel like i may be running into quite a bit off warranty issues with a crank pulley or a tune for that matter. a dealership can pretty much say a more aggressive fuel map, timing changes, or anything else that tunes change can pretty much be the cause of any engine part failure IMO... i could be wrong but i dont wanna find out the hard way
|
Well if you have the Uprev you can then have a base map and change it over before you bring it in.

If you're 370Z has some miles on it than I think you've already avoided the most likely engine failure - oil consumption. If you don't have that, an engine failure would probably actually be related to some after market parts (bad pulley installs are scarey) and if you can't afford it, you shouldn't install it.
OTOH, there is the M370 intake manifold (search for the thread) that adds some decent performance for a high price. I'm not sure throttle bodies make sense in the VVEL world? The holy grail may be cracking the VVEL encryption to enable full control over valve timing and lift, but that seems to be taking a while. What else are you expecting? Without factory FI, a lot of easy power upgrades aren't available, and the engine is pretty highly tuned from the factory in a lot of ways. |

All of them...

does uprev just basically give you a tuner with diff maps on it kinda like cobb 's access port?

wow i just did a lot of research on these vq motors and its no wonder why the aftermarket for perormance sector for these motors isn't exactly saturated. damn complicated machines we got here... we must crack the tuning wall for this vvel!!
