stillen oil cooler fram filter x-reference issue
My first oil change since installing the stillen oil cooler. It comes with the crappy Fram PH3950 oil filter so I thought I'd get that changed. Searched around this forum as well as on the Fram website for cross reference filters with other brands. Therefore ordered the K&N HP-1005 oil filter as recommended by I believe kyle@stillen? (I could be wrong) as well as the fram website. Confidently I got the HP1005 and installed it. Then it started leaking all over the floor. Stupid me should have matched them up for sizing before installing... So now I have to put another Fram filter back on until the next oil change.
Just thought I'd give everyone the heads up since there are many running the stillen oil cooler. Don't trust the cross reference list and always physically check the sizing before changing filter brands! |
Yeah.... parts professionals are worth their weight in gold.

For those of you that like oem filters, I just physically measured numerous oem oil filters. Use the oem oil filter for the 1985 Datsun 810. Part number 15208-W1103-PC. Perfect fit...fyi.

Purolator PureOne PL10193 also works with the stillen thermostatic plate. That's what I've been using since I installed my oil cooler in July, iirc it's been 2 oil changes.

The Fram filter won't cause you problems if you maintain 3,000 mile intervals, but there are certainly better ones out there. I did a lot of research on bobistheoilguy and the Purolator PureOne is supposedly awesome, the one Tranceformer posted is what I am going with.
