Squeaking shifts?!?! Help
Well basically this just started to happen out of the dam blue... when shift from 1st-2nd- and sometimes even 3rd & 4th I hear a slight squeaking/rubbing noise like something is not lubricated properly... it seems to be coming from the shifter area...and it goes kinda like this when im driving...
stop light. green light. (GO) 1. depress clutch 2. shift to 1st 3. feather clutch and gas to get going 4. depress clutch to shift to 2nd 5. shift to 2nd 6. feather clutch and gas to keep going SQUEEK!!! just for a split second while 2nd gear kicks in?! :shakes head:WTF!!!!:shakes head: It sometimes does it and sometimes it all good It seems to happen at that moment when you up shift and the torque kicks in to help make it to the next gear… PLEASE HELP! any insight would be greatly appreciated:tup: It does not affect driving at all but common a dam squeak?! and no there is no mouse in there powering my gearbox. |

This actually happened to me last night. No problems today, though.

i get a squeak when going from 4th to 5th only. I only got that occationally when the car was new, but it seems to happen quite frequently now, almost every other 4-5 shift. Interestly, I only get the noise when I'm actually shifting 4-5 while driving. Can't duplicate it if i'm stopped or if the engine's not running.

How many miles are on the car? If I understand correctly, the shifter is already in second gear and as you engage the clutch (let of the pedal) and apply the gas, you hear a squeaking noise?
Strange that you don't hear it from a stop in first. Only things I can think of: 1. Clutch disk has a hairline fracture in it somewhere. Similar to a crack in brake pads, could cause noise during engagement/disengagement. 2. Possible the flywheel isnt perfectly smooth or has some type of foreign material on the surface. 3. Throw out bearing being load in some strange way. I know the TOB in my 09 sucks and makes a good bit of noise on a cold start and if the clutch is disengaged with the tranny in neutral. Really, this is one of those odd ball things. If it were driving me crazy, I would probably go out and give the clutch a good burn or two, leaving ample time inbetween (10 minutes or so) to keep temps from getting too high. |

Correct and like you im just thinking its just one of those oddball things that happens to every other car...but since its been getting hotter now that its summer the squeeks went away?! now it only happens every blue moon (still better than before) but anyways thxto everyone who shared an opinion and who has similar issues... and it can only be replicated while driving, i can sit in my garage all day going through the gears and its fine. Its only while driving  Well I will stay up to date on the issue and just let nature take its course i guess. |
It happened to me 1 time few days ago, i was going to work car was warm and i drove for about .9 miles where i stopped on a red light, green turned and as i shift in to second from 1st i hear this tire lock up squeak for like a sec but everything felt fine the car was moving and everything not even a jerk or nothing, i had my windows down so i heard it pretty loud. OAT was like 73F
haven't heard it since. |

I have the same problem I just bought a 2014 and every time I'm shifting from 4th to 5th it makes that nose ????
|
WD-40 that biatch...
|
Seriouly bro I really help with this
|
Dude i have the same thing on my 22k miles Z, it could be the tranny bushing or the little shaft on ur pumpkin where the drive shaft is connected to, u need to lube that, but nissan should do that.
But am no expert or anything just my best guess here. I have been waiting for like 12k miles for it to give out, and am still rolling strong same pitch never changed just more frequent. |
Ummm thanks bro I will take my ride to the dealer and find out thanks bro
|
I seem to have run into the same problem...
Whenever I go from 6th to 5th, some sort of quick squeak sound comes from under the shift knob. Has anyone found the problem/solution? |

Same squeaky squeaky!
So I have a 2015 sport bought brand new and just hit 10k miles. The squeaky started about two weeks ago, it's starting to drive me crazy to the point where I know it's going to happen every time I down shift from 6th to 5th.
I honestly don't think this is anything more than an annoyance, I can duplicate it every time, while driving or while parked and the car completely off. It sounds like a plastic on plastic squeak to be, or metal on plastic squeak. I have not yet hunkered down and tried to locate the squeak just yet, because I know it's to go something like me looking like Bill Murray looking for a gopher on a golf course lol. I suspect I'll end up with the seats, Center console and most of the interior pulled before ever even getting close to actually finding it. Rest assured that if it's ever found, I'll share! Edit : brought her to the dealer, I was the second Z who had brought it in for the same problem, they replaced shift lever under warranty... No more squeek! |
After my original post here, the squeak eventually went away on its own in a week or two...

Happens on mine too. My shifter squeaks going in and out of 5th. Also at higher rpm (about 4k and above) the shifter rattles like its going to fall apart. I don't beat the crap out of my car or anything, I think it's just a bad shifter linkage on some of the Z's.
I'm going to drop it off at the dealer and have them replace it under warranty when I get the time. |
