breaking in - what do i have to look up for ?
hello,
i am also a 370z owner. i am so far away from you. i live in far far Israel. we also have motoric lunatics in here...:hello: i am so thankful for this site and all of the information on it. it helped me a lot even before i decided to purchase one. my 370 has now 4000 km on it (appx. 2500 mi). bought it brand new. we only have 5-6 370z's all over the country !!! the importation of this car is brand new. so - i dont trust the dealer/Authorized Garage at all regarding maintenance of the car. they just font know yet how do handle this car. so - what do i have to look for in the car at that point ? 1. when do i need to make the first oil change ? (the Authorized Garage says every 15000 km - sounds too far i think) 2. which brand ? full syn? 3. do i need oil cooler ? (the temps goes normally up to 100 c and on the track to 110-115 c) - is that normal ? 4. are there any more things to look for ? breaking in ? thanx :ughdance: |
1. I did my first change at the recommended 6000 K or so. Some people like to do one immediately after break-in period, but I don't feel this is necessary.
2. Personally, I like Castrol syntec 0W-30, but there's no clear evidence that any one oil is better or worse than another. Many people on here seem to like Redline. Whatever you choose to use, synthetic is probably a better choice than regular oil, but so long as you do regular changes, any certified oil should be fine. 3. Only if you intend to track it. There are several threads on this -- search. 4. I recommend trying to avoid maintaining constant speeds for first 2000 K or so, and allowing the engine to coast down from various RPM's. Likewise, I advise against redlining it until after the break in too (this is essentially what Nissan reccomends, BTW. I've done this for more than one new motor, and no issues). However, different people have different theories on optimal break-in. This too has been discussed at length -- search. |
Drive it like you are going to drive it.
Beat the piss out of it, heat cycle, (warm up, drive it like a Chili's waitress, cool down completely, repeat X3) drop the fluid/ filter, and carry on as normal. These engines were cycled like a whore before being shipped to us. Agreed on a 0w, especially with F.I.. |
