Yeah, I'm gonna send them my Ester Oil from my first change too. Too bad I didn't have anything to seal up a sampe of the first fill of factory oil though.

Hmm....I drained my factory fill into a brand new oil pan. I should send in a sample.

I still have mine sitting in an oil pan right now too (a well-used one though), mostly because I've been lazy about bottling it and getting it to a recycle place. I don't think oil that's been sitting in a pan for a while can be trusted for analysis though, it's had time for things to "settle out" before you scoop the sample, and it's been oxidizing and absorbing moisture from the air while it sits there too. Hence the oil analysis places always saying to seal up a sample of well-mixed hot oil immediately on drain.

Good point. Well thx for saving me some money then!

i have just gotten a Z for about 6-7 months now.. and this is my second oil change... and i went to the dealership and told me if i wanted to Use this oil that they recommend only putting for 370z and maximas... and of course i said yes guessing must be good which i want to take care of my car... and charged me 94$ is this a reasonable price for an oilchange for every 3 months?? just curious...

kenchan 02-10-2011 11:15 PM

and why are you changing oil every 3months?

CoolKid092 02-11-2011 04:39 PM

cuz on the due date is 3 months from the date i change my oil and 4k miles..... thats why i was wondering. dealership sending me notice saying **** is due and crap lol

CoolKid092 02-11-2011 04:41 PM

and my oil and filter notice turns on in my car....

kellyefields 02-11-2011 04:57 PM

you can change the interval notice by going into the menu. as far as changing at 4k I would think about switching to a synthetic like RP with a good filter like the RP synthetic and you could run 5k easily. It is really easy to change your own oil and it also ensures it is done correctly. I have heard horror stories about dealerships/oil change places using the incorrect oil or not changing the filter just to make the job go faster and save on overhead. It takes all of 15 min to change it yourself. Check the DIY section for what you need and pics of the change. And dont think I am a RP fan or sales man, i have just started using it for the past 10k and have been having good results with it first time with their filters but I plan to cut it open upon the next change.

Even if you don't change your own oil, I wouldn't worry about time as much as mileage (unless you let the car sit a long time).

I personally think the Esther oil is worthwhile, but I'm used to paying a lot for car maintenance ;)

I'm probably going to use it again on my next change (planned at about 4K miles) just to help make sure the break-in goes well. My next change after that will be at about 7K (and about every 3K after that, +/- depending on how hard I work the oil), and I'll be switching to a quality synthetic that is known to have the Esters, just to be on the safe side (so far I've heard Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Motul 300V placed in that category, but there are probably others).

That Nissan oil is about $12/qt btw :)

Just so you know the Motul 300V is excellent stuff but is for racing only as it has no cleaning ability, although it will last better under race conditions than other oils. you will need to change it out VERY soon as to how soon, contact Motul and ask.

Where can I get Royal Purple or Motul 5w30? I dont see it on the websites of normal local stores like Pep Boys or O'Reily.

Methodical4u 08-14-2011 01:26 AM

I just changed my oil at 2k miles from the OE to AMSoil 0w-30 SSO and the engine runs noticeably smoother than before... my Fiancee as well as my roomate also commented the same thing. I changed the oil in her MS3 to the same and her engine is MUCH smoother and the mileage is already much better on this tank. AMSoil is all I have used in my last 4 cars though so I am biased... it's just better oil IMO.

I always caution anyone who uses Royal Purple... I had heard a few engine builders (Evo motors) say they tore some engines down that were using it and that the oil was completely shot and not protecting the engine. It supposedly breaks down very quickly... but then again everyone will say something different and it might be fine.

Hey everyone,

Im doing my second oild change at the dealership, and Im taking my own oil since Im pretty sure they used regular cheap oil on the first oil change (the oil temperatures, right off the oil change, were about 10°F higher, for starters). Currently there are some specials on PepBoys on Penzoil Ultra Premium Synthetic Oil. Anyone know if this oil is good? Or should I keep looking for the much talked about Mobil One (I havent seen it in stores here in PR)?

Thanks in advance!
