heavy vibration

Hey Everyone,

I just picked up my 370z in October. Owned 2 350z already, 1 NA and 1 turbocharged. Ive never had this problem with any Z. SO.. let me exlain the issue

When im parked in the street next to a curb. I get in the car, start it up. I turn the wheel all the way to the left to get out of the parking spot and as I take off into first as i start to move...

It feels like the whole car is vigorously shaking and feels like im running over giant potholes. Ive never felt anything like it.

Its got 2k miles, never even beaten on yet, 2010 sports package/Touring model Manual transmission. I bring it to Nissan and they feel the same thing. They tell me its the rear end/final drive assembly. They order everything and replace it brand new and its still doing the same thing. the car didnt do this when I bought it and now there saying any other shaking that car makes is normal because of the rims being huge....

Does anyone have any ideas????

Thanks Ryan

Sounds like they lied to you to get you off their backs. Mine doesn't shake at all when I get out of a parking spot but I only have 661 miles on mine.

Where is the vibration coming from? Can you feel it through the clutch? Rear? Front? Etc.

"Big wheels" will not make your car randomly shake when leaving a parking space.

Are you sure it's not just the tires? Summer tires in cold weather get very hard and "skip" over the pavement that results in a shuddering feel and sound.

Does it only happen when you sharply turn to leave your parking spot? If so, it's the tires.

Does the problem lessen as you speed up? Is it different depending on gear? Is it a vibration or a shaking?

First things to check would be engine and transmission mounts.

This is what I want to to say. Had something similar and ruled it to be the tires in the cold. Now that I have RE11's not issues. But it wasn't all that awful with the stock tires either.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback...

The vibration is so bad that it sounds like its coming from the entire car... no really isolated from front or rear.

It only happens when im leaving the parking spot or making a sharp K-turn. On regular driving around making less wide turns, or changing lanes, there is no vibration

I had this problem before on my TT, and the culprit was the outer cv joint. But your car is good as new. It could be a different thing, it is impossible that Nissan dealership couldn't isolate this problem. Shame on them.

They replaced the part under warranty?

ive got this street by my house i occasionally use to make a u-turn at early in the morning as a short cut. Pretty much everytime I cut the wheel hard at this place, the car shakes like the the tires are breaking loose, but they couldn't, im going to slow. and this only happens when the car is dead cold, never afterward. What you're describing sounds like this. i chalk it up to rack and pinion binding from being cold... really not a problem, just a minor annoyance.

Probably the tires chattering in this cold weather making tight turns, I get it every morning

yeah probably.

Yeah, I've always had it. Cranking it with cold tires. Bumps and skips for a few seconds. Never got a satisfactory answer from the dealership. 20K now and new RE-ll's, but it's still there. Always the same.
So I jus fuggedaboudit now.

DIGItonium 01-29-2011 08:30 AM

Once I switched to different tires I have not experienced the shake for the past couple of winters.

BalanBro 01-29-2011 09:10 AM

I had that happen too when making a low speed sharp turn in the cold. I figured it was a combination of the tires and the diff fluid being cold that is making the car act as if it had a locked differential. If you every drove a car with a locked rear diff, it feels just like that. Went away after being warmed up though.
