Endless question about auto's

This is not meant to be a debate between the auto guys and the manual die hards.........

Is the 7at as good as advetised. I've heard the words world class used when reading about it. is it really that much better than the older 6at?

fxroar 10-13-2010 07:45 PM

Shifts are lightening fast compared to old 6at.

It's better than most automatics, but I still prefer the manual. If a dual clutch set-up was available, I would have gone in that direction.

What 6at, do you mean the old 5spd auto? I think that that 7spd is better in all out foot to floor accelleration, but when it comes to dowshifts and at lower speeds I found the old unit leaps better. I still to this day hate sometimes how jerky and confussed it gets at times then, but overall its good.

When driving aggressively in manual mode the up & down shifts are very crisp and fast. If you are in manual mode and are driving at low rpm's the down shifts are slow at times. But I guess it is matching the way you are driving. I've owned manuals all my life, and I don't regret purchasing the auto one bit.

I thought it was 5AT?

Vast improvement over the old Nissan automatics. The the 7AT in the Z with magnesium paddle shifters =

Yes, the 7AT is fantastic!

I would have to agree with the above statement. I believe the people who like autos will not like the 7AT as the changes are not as smooth. The 7AT seems to lock in very aggressively particularly when in manual mode. I also have had manuals all my life and don't regret my purchase one bit.

I have a 2010 G37 with the 7AT... I like it. It's a bit quirky at times, but you just have to learn how it reacts.

I get a chance once in awhile to drive my mom's 2010 M35 with the 5AT... it downshifts too easily compared to my G... at least for my tastes.

I love my auto. I traded in my 350z auto and the 7speed is much much sportier! some of my friends give me heat untill they drive it and its alot of fun.

Test drive one and decide for yourself.

I used to have a g35 with the 5AT and the 7AT is far better

I'm still waiting someone to hit 50k miles with a STILLEN supercharger in a 7AT. Then I will get one ;D Because all i really want right now is brembo brakes and STILLEN J-hooks!
