Weird baking up noice help!!!!

ok for the record i got my 370z at 119 miles the dealer sad he had to deliver the car here and it took some mileage it is a base w/ sport pkg. 2010. here's the thing i have about 550 mi on it total i have been driving it normally in some occasions just give it a lil kick, never floored it and don't mess around, just driving 4 now at least until i brake it in. But recently i started hearing this very loud noise from underneath my car like metal grinding.......ummm when you run out of brake pads on ur car and u hit the pedal it goes kkkeeeeeeee ..yee that one well i get that when am backing up can any1 explain??? plz ???

DOOMMONKEY777 10-13-2010 07:27 PM

oh yeah i know i misspelled noise am Russian we use "c" instead of "S" srryy

Where is the noise comming from? brake noise? transmission? Is it a manual or auto?

DOOMMONKEY777 10-13-2010 07:58 PM

good question where is it cumming from some times i hear it wile driving forward 2-3 gear and its a 6manual but there's nothing stopping me or any kind of jerking going on i can literally start moving the car without giving it gas and it just drives off but the noise is there like wtf??? Put in reverse slowly let go of the clutch and KLEEEE wile moving.

If its a transmission noise, its normal. It sounds basically like a metallic cement mixer. The 6spd in very noisy in 1st & 2nd gear...just one of the quirks of this car and has been covered extensively if you do a search. The noise is basically non-existant in the higher gears. If its more of a "hard gear grinding/crunching" thats something more serious.

Test the brakes, apply and see if you notice a change in the sound. If you do, then its a brake problem....

Dude am not a moron its not the gears its like brakes are locked and they are grinding but none of the brakes are locked, now to think of it could it be the lsd??

TreeSemdyZee 10-13-2010 08:17 PM

Maybe the parking brake is frozen up and grinding. I know the parking brake was a separate pad in the 350 and I'm pretty sure it's the same in the 370.

NO need to get all worked up. You have to understand we are all trying to help. We are trying to diagnose this WITHOUT hearing or experiencing the noise, therefore it's very hard.

Can you take a video? Maybe your parking brake is stuck? Maybe your calipers are NOT releasing the brake pads properly? When did this start? (how many days/hours after leaving the dealership)

Take it to the Dealer!!!

This happened to my own 370Z last winter when Z was buried under this for like 3 days. I used parking brake too before parking :shakes head: I hate snow!

Easy there buddy! You just said you don't know where its coming from. If you want to know whats wrong, then you have to diagnose. That means finding out whats working properly and whats not.

That's what I get for trying to help. Good luck OP!

My Z was just as buried that same time last winter. Although I did put a car cover on which made removing the snow easier and reduced the likelyhood of scratching the paint. I hope our winter wont be as bad this year.
